I get on the Westerdam the day the 53 day Japan Legendary Voyage ends for my 58 day cruise to Australia from Seattle. It would be nice to do both, but there’s no way I can 😂
Poor planning on Carnivals part for the giant ships. Don't they already have enough problems with passengers now?
If I was on a cruise had a port that wanted to charge
charge five euro or €10 I wouldn’t have any problem at all paying that or even more. I’ve already spent several thousand dollars on the cruise because I wanted to see the port and I would gladly pay a fee to go into the port.
I also take pictures of the port agent information
The Alaska cruise on Saturday 7/27/24 will be my first group cruise ever. Looking forward.
Planning on making the last tender was how that group of cruise passengers ended up missing the ship in Africa a few months ago. To your question, I tend to leave my passport in the safe unless I'm required to bring it ashore. I'm more likely to lose it or be pickpocketed then I am to miss the ship. And they do go in the safe to try to get all the passports and leave them with the poor agent. I think if they can't find it in an obvious place they assume you have it on you.
I appreciate your quote "We get to choose our choices but we don't get to choose our consequences."
8,000 passengers, no thank you. Also not going to help with ports limiting or not wanting cruise ships.
About Venice in particular, we spent a week in Venice in 2014. We had a VRBO apartment just off the Grand Canal. It was amazing.
At night when the majority of the tourists had gone back to their hotels, the city came alive.
Venice made 2 million euros in tourist tax, but how much did the businesses LOSE?
Where is the port information phone number posted when you get ready to leave for a land tour?
Thank you for your channel. I appreciate your honesty, sincerity, and empathy.
I don't need to go back to Venice but I would love to go back to Barcelona!
Passport books stay in a passport folio in the safe. That way no one's gets left behind.
Passport cards come with us, carried securely. That way even if the worst happens we can dig our way out quickly. You're not supposed to be able to fly on the cards, but in emergencies people have. If you have to walk in to a US Embassy to fix something, having the passport card or other federal photo ID can mean the difference between heading home in hours vs days.
Always cards, never books.
NCL and the Captain screwed up…if you use NCL for a excursion they tell you they will wait for you….total mess up by the cruise company….we waited a hour and a half in mexico for a excursion to come back…
We always take a copy of our passports ( or a photo of the information page and the number on the back cover) with us when we disembark in a port. We also keep our actual passports in the safe just in case the crew needs to retrieve them. We also take a photo of the port agent’s information. On Princess that info is usually in the Patter, so you can take a shot of it there also. It’s better to be prepared than sorry.
Enjoy Alaska 🥰
Been on Princess cruise to Alaska 2017 & 2023
And hoping to again in a couple year
All these new ships are just way too big
Mega ships are ruining our idea of cruising. Hopefully they all stay in the Caribbean….unfortunately, the Caribbean is already too crowded and not as much fun as it used to be.
We also book our cruises to avoid large numbers of kids and avoid the times of the year you mentioned. Another criteria we use if we are near those dates is to book cruises that are longer than 7 days. Spring break in the US is for 1 week and it is usually a family's limit. That has only failed us once. When we were on the Sky Princess 14 days out of Southampton starting around Easter. The UK schools take a 2 week brake at Easter. Over 500 kids in addition to a sold out ship. It was the worst cruise we've been on, but we still had a good time.
Mama Mia what a screw up by NCL!!! Totally unacceptable to not get cruise line booked excursion passengers back to the ship!!
HOWEVER, and please someone let me know if I am not understanding the situation clearly please , please, please as you see departure time approaching take no chances. Invest a few bucks in a cab ride back to the ship. Present a fare receipt to guest relations and you will be reimbursed in a millisecond. Then walk over to the excursion desk and GO WILD ON THEM!!! This entire saga would have been easily avoided. I know they relied on being told someone was coming back to get them but please always err on the side of caution!!!
8000, you gotta be joking, not a chance of us going anywhere near a monstrosity like that. At some point they just might realise that BIG IS NOT BEST.
I have a passport card, which I routinely carry ashore. I leave my passport book in the safe (unless the cruise ship is holding the passport, such as in South America or in the British Isles).
Just go to Venice during the off season. And Barcelona as well….during the non tarriff times.
KIds can go on cruises because God gave them Disney cruises!
The cruise line will get your passport out of your safe, so don't leave it somewhere else, like hiding in your clothing, because they won't search your room.
I hate to carry my passport off of the ship but i do carry my pass port card. It won't get you on an international flight but I think it is an ID, better than a drivers license, for use when you are in port.
I think that even 10€ will not make a difference. I have been many times and am so grateful for the sail away experience!
Venice charges overnight visitors a per night, per person tax, so i am glad to see the daily charge for day trip visitors. Our last visit was last year for 10 glorious days, we paid a total of 30€ for the 2 of us for the first 5 days, it's waived after that.
For passports, it depends on the location itself, and how difficult would it be to get to the next port or home if the last tender left me. IF i took my passport with me, i would leave a paper in my cabin safe that say "We have our passports" with our cell phone numbers and full names. It's for this reason i keep the safe tidy, i.e. jewelry in a case, cash in a zipper pouch.
