I have to disagree, Eastern Europe and Western Europe refer to a geopolitical status which is true, but they also have different religious, cultural and historical differences that separate the two regions.
Western Europe used the Latin alphabet while Eastern Europe used the Cyrillic. Western Europe also developed from Roman Catholicism into Protestantism in some countries, whereas Eastern Europe developed into Eastern Orthodoxy.
There are also the Slavic languages, which are different than the western romantic / Germanic languages. And as you pointed out this whole block is usually highlighted by the Warsaw Pact vs NATO.
Originally, NATO agreed not to annex Eastern European countries into their political bloc, but…. well look where we’re at now. Ahhh

Poland is the biggest success story in the post communist sphere. I think you’re overly optimistic about the rest. Romania and Bulgaria joined the EU 3 years after Poland, but they’re nowhere near Western European by comparison.
I feel only Eastern European. And this is mainly due to the attitude of those in the west. Being Eastern is like a stigma, W will never really integrate us into their systems. In the first stage we all tried to prove that we are equal, but people are starting to get tired. I think that in the future it will be cool to be Eastern European, different from the West, if we get rid of Russia.
