Göteborg är Sveriges näst största tätort, efter Stockholm, och Nordens femte största med 607 882 (2020-12-31) invånare i tätorten och 1 080 000 invånare (2023) i Storgöteborg. Samhället ligger på västkusten vid Göta älvs mynning. Staden Göteborg anlades på initiativ av kung Gustav II Adolf och fick sina stadsprivilegier 1621. Med anledning av sin stadsplanering, kallades Göteborg av holländarna under många år för Nya Amsterdam. På 1800-talet industrialiserades Göteborg till stor del av inflyttade britter och under denna tid fick Göteborg smeknamnet “Lilla London”, som fortfarande används.

Gothenburg is Sweden’s second largest conurbation, after Stockholm, and the fifth largest in the Nordics with 607,882 (2020-12-31) inhabitants in the conurbation and 1,080,000 inhabitants (2023) in Greater Gothenburg. The community is located on the west coast at the mouth of the Göta River. The city of Gothenburg was established on the initiative of King Gustav II Adolf and received its city privileges in 1621. Due to its urban planning, Gothenburg was called by the Dutch for many years New Amsterdam. In the 19th century, Gothenburg was largely industrialized by British immigrants and during this time Gothenburg was nicknamed “Little London”, which is still used.
