In this video we visit the other side of Yangon which tourists usually do not see. We cross Yangon river to go to Dala township. Here we are visiting 2 social enterprises set up by a local travel company during the covid 19 crisis.
The travel company wanted to keep their staff in work even when tourism in Myanmar was at a standstill. So they took the initiative to get involved in social enterprise. We were lucky enough to be invited to see 2 of their projects.
One of their projects is called HoneyBee Arts and Crafts and it’s purpose is to employ local Myanmar women in making various arts and crafts out of recyclable materials.
The other charity we are visiting is the KuMel Volunteer Connection which finds volunteer teachers to go and teach Burmese kids in deprived areas. We got to visit the Robert Orphanage who had volunteers from KuMel teaching the children in their care.
Follow Whity as she discovers the other side of Yangon.
