Château des Milandes (France) – Exploring Josephine Baker’s Iconic French Castle in Dordogne (4K)

Come with us to explore the breathtaking Château des Milandes, the former home of legendary entertainer and civil rights activist Josephine Baker.

Nestled in the heart of the Dordogne Valley, this stunning Gothic castle has an interesting past. Built in 1489 by the Caumont family, who owned the nearby austere fortress of Castelnaud but wanted a more luxurious residence for the family who owned it for several centuries. The architectural style combines elements of medieval and Renaissance design, featuring elaborate stone carvings, towers, and stunning windows that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

The most famous chapter in the castle’s history began in 1940 when it was rented then purchased by American-born entertainer, civil rights activist, and French Resistance member Josephine Baker. Baker fell in love with the château’s beauty and turned it into her family home, where she lived with her “Rainbow Tribe” of adopted children from different ethnicities and backgrounds, promoting her vision of a harmonious and united world.

Join us as we tour the magnificent property, birds of prey demonstration and lush gardens, and discover the incredible history that makes this chateau one of France’s must-visit landmarks.
