  1. I turned my back on The Catholic religion when I was 8 years old. I am now in my 70's. The freedom is wonderful. I see others in the faith and they seem to be brow beaten and guilt ridden.

  2. What Protestants seem to forget is that where Luther preached his mode of faith, Jean Cauvin preached another, Zwingli another, and so on until now there are about 3,300 Protestant sects. However much "our separated brethren" may dispise it, those are the FACTS.😊

  3. Interesting and thought provoking. I would like to say though that the rich early French Catholic foundations of the Great Lake States were totally missed. Many Midwest cities were founded at the same time as the New England and Virginian areas by Catholic missionaries. Sault Saint Marie in Michigan dated from the mid 1600s. Detroit was founded in 1701 by Antone Cadillac. It is the oldest large city west of the Appalachian Mountains. Detroit's Catholic heritage is especially noteworthy. Ste. Anne de Detroit is the second oldest continuous Catholic parish in the nation, again dating to 1701. In the early 1800s, a Catholic priest, Fr. Gabriel Richard (pronounced -Ree shard), founded the University of Michigan, printed the first book and newspaper in Michigan, became its first non-voting representative to the U.S. Congress, and started the first schools for native Americans. When the local Protestant pastor was unavailable, Fr. Richard ministered to the Protestant flock. When Detroit experienced a devastating fire in 1805, which destroyed the town, Fr. Richard was one of the main leaders to rebuild it. The official seal of Detroit carries his words of encouragement – in translation, "We Hope for Better Things – It Will Arise from the Ashes." In 1830, a terrible cholera epidemic hit Detroit, he tirelessly ministered to the sick and dying. He finally caught the disease and was the last victim of the epidemic. Thousands attended his funeral. In honor of Fr. Richard's importance, he was officially designated by the City of Detroit as "Its Second Founder."

Finally, I do have to remark on the rather strange naming of New England (USA) and the Maritime Provinces (Canada) as "New Britian. Never ever heard that before. I'll have to look it up to see if it is a real thing. I don't think that the two entities are linked much economically. Detroit and Windsor, Ontario are intimately linked economically, especially in the production of the automotive industry. They are just a short hop over the Detroit River from each other and have a shared history as part of New France. However, there is no effort to claim that we are one region.
