The Towers and ramparts of Aigues-Mortes

Our visit to the towers and ramparts of Aigues-Mortes will forever remain a highlight of our trip, both for the adults and our little one. This historical site, with its impressive medieval fortifications, transported us back in time. Walking along the ramparts, surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the Camargue and the famous pink salt marshes, was truly breathtaking. Each tower offers a unique view, whether it’s over the wild expanses of the region or the charming streets of the town itself. The experience was both educational and immersive, perfect for sparking the curiosity of children while also satisfying the interest of adults. It’s an ideal family outing that combines culture, history, and nature, and we highly recommend taking the time to explore everything this beautiful site has to offer.

As for our visit to the manades, we were slightly less impressed. While the idea of discovering traditional bull and horse breeding in the Camargue was appealing, the four-hour tour didn’t quite meet our expectations. We had hoped to see more interaction with the animals and livelier demonstrations of life in these iconic farms. Unfortunately, the pace felt slow, and there was a lack of dynamic activities, which made it less engaging, especially for the younger ones. That said, the natural setting of the manades remains beautiful, and the authenticity of these places is undeniable.

Overall, Aigues-Mortes and its surroundings are a must-see destination. The towers and ramparts are a true historical gem, providing us with a unique and enriching family experience. Despite the small disappointment with the manades, the beauty and richness of the Camargue make it well worth a visit. We will cherish these memories and recommend this place without hesitation.
