Sailing Alone 11,500 Nautical Miles Across The Entire Pacific Ocean on a $2400 Sailboat

Hello Friends,
I have put this video together to talk about how I got into sailing, finding my dream boat, spending 4 years refitting her and pushing off to sail over 11.5k miles across the largest ocean in the world alone.

This video is about a dream, a seemingly impossible dream, that I made come true working pay check to pay check and leaving land life behind.

  1. I spent 3 days trying to cross the Tasman Sea from New Zealand. A delivery voyage for the Sydney to Hobart race. We had an average of 70 knot winds and 40' waves the whole time. The captain finally decided to turn back to port. I and another deckhand quit the boat when we reached New Plymouth harbour. The boat sailed two days later and was never heard from again. I did hear that some wreckage was washed up on the West coast of South Island. It kinda put me off doing anything on a boat in a hurry again. I'm too old to sail now. Health issues. But most times it was " living the dream ". Fair winds to you !

  2. Very inspirational video. Was that the old engine reconditioned or a new one that you put in? Also when did you fix the steering? I'm planning on doing a long trip too but have only dinghy/small yacht short course racing experience.

  3. All the solo sailors in these small boats are very inspirational, my mother is one of them having set off 20+ years ago from Cape Town on Speedwell of Hong Kong. Speedwell is a Vertue (no. 44), designed by Laurent Giles and built in 1952 in Hong Kong. She is 25'4" LOA with a 4'6" draft and 7' beam, which may mean more to others here than it does to me.

  4. You are an inspiration to leave what you are used to and explore what you aren’t use to.
The meek shall inherit the world and sailors the oceans. You are a sailor. Cheers Capt Ed

  5. That boats soul was saying 'please dont scrap me' when you bought her. If boats could smile, I would love to have seen her face when she learned of the adventure ahead. Bless her, what an incredible travel companion.

  6. Very cool and beautiful. Something that I would never be able to do and not sure how I ran across this video but it's really great that you share this and I'm able to see such beautiful sceneries. Enjoy those amaizing time that your living.

  7. In February 2018, a couple from Colorado sold their belongings and bought a sailboat to sail around the world, but their dream was cut short when their boat capsized on their second day of the trip
