The Castle was closed to the public for over 70 years and is now in ruins but you can see what a beautiful place it must have been near Penrith in Cumbria. It was taken over by a charitable trust in 2011 as one of Europe’s largest reclamation and restoration projects. The work is ongoing so don’t expect to see all the gardens if you visit as they are working hard restoring them to what they once looked like. It would be nice to return in a year or two to see how it has progressed.

There is an admission charge to cover the work involved and in the Courtyard a Cafe, Shop, Gallery and Stables.
