Lichtenstein Castle | Württemberg | Germany

Lichtenstein Castle (Schloss Lichtenstein) is a Gothic Revival castle in southern Germany’s Swabian Jura, and is privately owned. Designed by Carl Alexander Heideloff, the castle’s name translates to “shining” or “bright stone.” It overlooks the Echaz Valley near Honau, Reutlingen, in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The current structure, built between 1840 and 1842, was inspired by Wilhelm Hauff’s 1826 novel Lichtenstein. Nearby, just a few hundred meters away, lie the remnants of an older medieval castle.

We visited the castle on the 24th of August (2024). It was almost 8 p.m., and the scenery looked breathtaking with the sun setting behind the castle.

Thank you for watching!
