Hi friends. I have been fortunate to visit and stay in Honfleur twice. It is really beautiful; thanks for the tour. I agree it is probably a bit too touristique but, hey-ho. If you have chance next time, my I recommend the musée Maisons Satie which is fun and full of surprises.

Oh, what a pity you arrived on a day when the weather was dreadful ! Honfleur is so beautiful when the sun shines ! You compare it to Etretat, but I don't agree : Etretat is pretty, but it's very small, and apart from the famous cliffs and two or three interesting buildings, it doesn't take long to get round it. In Honfleur, however, there's a lot to explore, as you've realised. And Honfleur has played a major role in the history of France and England, as well as in the history of art. Today, Honfleur capitalises heavily on its Impressionist roots : Claude Monet's mentor, Eugène Boudin, was born there, and Monet and his contemporaries often set up their easels at the Ferme Saint-Siméon on the hill above Honfleur, to capture the light of the estuary. In summer, there are a lot (too many) tourists (many of them British)… but at least it's warm ! 🙂
