  1. 55 euro’s for that chair is far too much. You should rent a little van type car and go to Emmaeus . There they sell beautiful secondhand ( donated ) firniture for almost nothing.

  2. VERY NICE PLACE , you must work on making it home , ask for help from local friends to have basics like starter beds, and first room with table and the rest things for the family ,….

  4. Welcome to the fun of learning French appliances! haha On the dryer your easiest best is the EXPRESS button as a general overall basic clothes. for towels and jeans COTON setting is the best Upper right corner. For washing, same thing. if you have a general Express I always use that for everything as some of those other cycles can go for 2.5hrs! Upper left corner is your Coton and that goes for most everything. you can change the temperature of the water from 30-40 if you have dirtier clothing. 40 for dirtier. You have an Express button on the right that is also a basic easy one to use. Unless you are washing silk or wool, none of those other buttons are really necessary. I just ignore them all. Hopefully you know, on your dryer. where it says BOSCH that is a drawer! you have to pull it out after every load and empty the water! If you don't empty the cannister of water it won't dry the clothes. Good luck. Its all a HUGE learning curve here. Americans living in France for 8yrs now. Bonne Chance!

  5. It will be so fun shopping there for furnishings! I know it must be overwhelming but enjoy the process…it will be amazing. The house empty is already gorgeous! Your views are beautiful, too. It will all fall into place. Enjoy ❤

  6. Welcome to the wacky world of EU appliances. The washing machines are pathetically small, the detergent is horrible, there is no functional bleach – and they break after three years.
    The dryer?
You have a condensing dryer – it is not vented to the outside, so the water is collected in the container which pulls out on the top left. Empty it after every load.
Here’s a fun fact – there is an additional vent which collects lint and clogs solid every month – it is underneath the drum, and that bottom front panel drops down – revealing this vent. Pull it out, clean it – snap it back. When clothes don’t get dry, it’s invariably this hidden vent that’s clogged.
    Pro tip?
After your tiny little load of wash is done – find the additional spin cycle on your machine, and run the extra spin. These machines are twinky, under-powered beasts, and the extra spin means you won’t have to run them through the dryer six times.
    You got this.

  7. The low chair, is a ladies slippers chair!!! Meant for a ladies bed chamber/ room or ladies dressing room for before bed or at a ladies vanity for putting on make up!!!

  8. You need to sort out your health insurance "carte vitale" see online at home, that can take a while.
You need proof of payment or the contract from EDF electricity or another supplier you are currently with.
    Your marriage certificate.
You need a French telephone number, they will not call you if you do not have a French number.
Everything goes slowly in France, but everything will be fine, sometimes you need paper proof, but often it is also by email. Both of them.
We have been living in France for 3 years now, we are from Belgium but now live in France and whatever you have to think, it will be fine, if not today then tomorrow.

Also go to Emmaüs, second-hand shop with a good cause, sometimes it is junk, sometimes you find nice things, good luck!

  9. grotesque faces, on your fireplace handle!!!! they also can be found on medival manuscrips, furniture, exessories (example: serving bowls), and buildings!

  10. It will take time and once u get the Bank account setup it be easier , i thought u had to have a bank account to buy a house over there and to have Electricity and all that to the house . The house is beautiful try and not stress it happen its all so new to u and your family too .

  11. You can look up the appliance model online and get an English manual. don’t forget to empty your dryer condenser of water. Btw they will never dry like a North American big dryer. Most Europeans will hang clothes to dry because electricity costs are so high. Get a drying rack or two to put in your empty rooms.

  12. Wow. So much to navigate. Hope all goes well and planning on following your journey so l can one day be a fellow expat in France with my family. Will try to convince my brother to move there also. He's in Toronto and you cannot purchase a home under $500,000 there. Will you set up your home for guests to rent accomodations in the future? Hope to visit France in the Spring of 2025. All the best for what lies ahead.

  13. What adventure to buy a house in the French country side or in the little town ! It's very very quiet. The price is low but you must find a way to avoid that the time would be long, too too long. To settle in France, you must contact American and English people leaving here before. You can find them on the web. They could give you good advices, and traps to avoid, and the processes and approaches to do for banks, healthcare, insurance…
I imagine that's not simple for British or American people. It's an other way of life to understand before settling in successfully.

  14. The low seating chair is 19 century mother nursing chair for baby, Someone gave me one many years ago.Bank will sort out in time moving to another country some things go a–wall .Washing machine check out on everyones friend Google what buttons to push. I'm sure your buttons are already pushed. LOL. Remember to stop worrying it;s like sitting in a rocking goes no where. Watching from Australia.

  15. The first stand is for cotton, sheets etc , the second means it dry enough to put your clothes in the dresser , the third is they are still moist for ironing, the fourth is fitness clothing, synthetic, then serviettes means towels. Then a quick dry, then warm . You have minutes to normally, you then can add per 10 minutes of you push time .. kts the second from the left on the black screen. Also empty the left big thing it fils with the water that comes of the clothes, and the filter , open the door and in the door there is a lint filter. The is one also on the bottom left ,

  16. La Banque Postale is easier but they'll really nickel and dime you at every chance….
When you go to get insurance do not tell them you have rentals nor declare those spaces, do that when you have your first renters coming…otherwise they'll charge you and tell the tax people you are renting and they too will want money starting now, long before the first paint brush is even bought….
The low chairs are for nursing babies…I have no idea why they had to have such low chairs but that is their design, unless it was furniture for Munchkins….
That second fireplace has been painted, it'll be some stone underneath…the part with the broken arm, it should be metal or black and you can strip the whole thing with a décapante from you favorite DIY shop, Leroy Merlin, Mr Bricolage, Castorama are the most widespread….
rugs, you can buy oriental rugs from Catawiki at decent prices if you go for the no reserve price items…. also look on Leboncoin for great deals, it is the best source for used items for the home, Louis XV cabriolet chairs, canape beds in solid oak or chestnut…

  17. hello, it take 5 mns to open a credit agricole account online, with a bill of FAI, elictricity, etc.. justifying where you live, and a ID card! bon courage

  18. 🍎Hi
    Fabulous cloudy day!
We wish we knew your name as we do a lot of YouTubers, but that's ok more importantly you're shopping for a bank and we sent you a link to an American couple with a daughter about your daughter's age, maybe a little older that recently moved to France, maybe a couple months ahead of you. So they a lot of red tape how to get important things done in France especially they have a YouTube video talking about the best three banks you can open online that they highly recommend and have no problems with them. Three of the banks they mentioned were, Wise, Revolut and BNP Paribas. You can check them out right away and compare them to suit your needs.

About furniture: My daughter and I think so you don't rush to get furniture since you have so much to get done in the house, just get bean bags from Amazon. They have them in chairs and sofas. Just until you can take your time and shop at different brocantes and find out in your region or maybe not too far away the biggest brocantes. They are the ones that have the best prices, not small antique stores because you're going to pay double the price there. There's brocantes and very big ones in every nearby town. If it was us, the only thing you need from a brocante or better yet flea markets that have every weekend is a table and chairs set that you can get for your kitchen to eat on. Just wait on the fabulous shopping spree to furnish the house. Just wait and browse first, that will give you time to get the house and walls and everything else spotlessly clean and give you a lot less stress for shopping for furniture right away. Even your windows you have to clean inside and out. It would be a huge stress off of you if you stick to bean bags chairs on Amazon and your children will love it. Of course buy them their tv, that's all they need. Encourage them to help you in everything because it teaches them from the get going how to fix and make things look pretty and nice, especially since they are also living in the house and they will appreciate the house even more. Tell them don't even think about being bored, because the house is so big, there's no time to get bored. I never used that word to my children so they can focus on the word bored. Your son can help with the yardwork every day to keep it mint, but it has to be done with you or your husband until he learns to appreciate yardwork, not by himself because he won't like it. Everything has to be done together when it comes to chores when you or your husband is going to do chores, then when you guys take a break, they take a break. Boys love to be outside instead of inside the house, while girls love to decorate and prepare meals. It's the only way they're going to learn, by teaching them and letting them help with everything you do. If you don't, they're not going to do it. One more thing. About antique furniture: The short chairs and very low sofas was designed and made in the 1600's and 1700's because people were shorter then and even looked a little weird because they married their second, third and fourth cousins and so caused the genes to be that way. So you don't want to buy short legged furniture. First you have to sit in it and see if it's comfortable if you must have it, because if you don't you're going to be stuck with furniture that you wish you waited on for something else you like more. We have done that did that and not going to do it again to be in a hurry. Below is the link to the video of the couple talking about banks in France. They might not live too far away from you.
    Bye for now. 🌴

  19. I have heard other chateau owners in France saying that homeowners insurance is impossible to get for their buildings, so that might have to go on the back burner list.

Chin up! We're pulling for you.

  20. Two great apps to use to help with French. Word reference gives you single word translations and also sentences. DeepL is great and can translate sentences for you into French or vice versa. Easy to use on your phone. Good luck.

  21. Check out Nickel, Revolut and Wise for banking. (I'm not there yet but I've been keeping a list of advice I've collected until it's my turn!)

  22. Oooh I love the little faces on your fireplace vents! I was about to ask if you’d seen the little people on the outsides of shutters yet, then you showed some. Aren’t they cute? 😊
