  1. Review of Kotor: A Mixed Experience

Overall Impressions I recently visited Kotor and wanted to share my experience for those considering it as a vacation destination. While the city is beautiful with its stunning views, my overall experience was mixed.

Beach and Day Trips Firstly, Kotor might not be the best choice for a summer beach vacation. The beaches are not great, so if thatโ€™s important to you, you might be disappointed. However, a day trip to Kotor could be enjoyable, especially if youโ€™re interested in its historic and architectural sites.

Host/Accommodation Our stay in Kotor was less than ideal. We had booked an apartment, but our host did not communicate key details about the property. We were not informed that the location of the apartment was very steep, which made it difficult to navigate. Additionally, we were disturbed by noise from loud children and their families in the area, which further impacted our comfort.

Road Safety One major concern was the road leading to Kotor from the hill. It was quite steep and not very safe, especially with all the buses traveling along it. This made traveling to and from the city more stressful.

Service Service in Kotor was another downside. Despite dining at several high-end restaurants, the service was poor. Good service is important to me on vacation, so I was disappointed. The exception was Montekriseto, where we had a fantastic breakfast and excellent service.

Podgorica Experience We also spent time in Podgorica, where we encountered similarly rude hotel staff. The driving culture in both cities was stressful, with frequent honking that added to our discomfort.

Tourist Tax Another frustrating aspect was the tourist tax. Unlike other places weโ€™ve visited, like Rome, Venice, Greece, Cyprus, Germany, and Turkey, Kotor requires tourists to find and pay this tax separately, which felt unnecessary and inconvenient.

Summary In summary, while Kotor offers beautiful scenery and historic charm, the issues with service, road safety, and logistical inconveniences made our stay less enjoyable. If youโ€™re looking for a smooth and pleasant vacation, you might want to consider other destinations.
