A bit of history and facts about Trani
The city is a historic fishing port on the Adriatic coast and is located in a small natural bay. It is known for its beautiful historic center, with its cathedral and a picturesque harbor. Its name comes from Tirenum as according to legend it was founded by Tirreno, son of Diomedes. The cathedral is also known as the Cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino, was built in the 12th century and is considered one of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture in Puglia (or Apulia).
