Hann. Münden, Germany – 4K

Hann. Münden is a town in Lower Saxony, Germany. Located at the confluence of the Fulda, Werra, and Weser rivers the town has around 24,000 residents. The town was once a trading hub yet also prone to floods due to its riverside location.

The town’s name is short for Hannoversch Münden.

Hann. Münden’s medieval Old Town has over 700 half-timbered houses which make it a tourist attraction. Therefore Hann. Münden is also part of the German Timber-Frame Road, a scenic route through historic towns.

Hann. Münden has three historic city gates – remnants of medieval fortifications. However, we start our tour near The Alte Werrabrücke (Old Werra Bridge) which is one of Germany’s oldest stone bridges, dating back to the 14th century. From this important bridge we explore the Old Town.

We see the the historic Town Hall, built in the Renaissance style, and the St. Blasius Church, a Gothic-style church from the 14th century. We walk all around town on this rainy day to explore German architecture and heritage.

Our tour ends a bit outside the historic center with a view of the Kronenturm.

Did you know: The town also celebrates Dr. Eisenbart annually with a festival in his honor. Dr. Eisenbart was a famous (wandering) surgeon and showman who died there in 1727.
