The Pont du Gard is an iconic remnant of Roman engineering and architectural prowess, built around 50 AD near Nîmes in southern France. Originally constructed as part of an extensive aqueduct system, its purpose was to transport fresh water from a spring in Uzès to the growing Roman colony of Nemausus (modern-day Nîmes). With its towering height of 49 meters and three tiers of arches, it is the tallest Roman aqueduct bridge still standing, symbolizing both the ambition and skill of Roman builders.
