Swift Kon-Tiki 784 – Fresh Water Tank Cradle, Habitation Door, Shower

I visit Todds Motorhomes for a few warranty items to be fixed. The most important one for me, is the low fresh water tank cap. The tank bottom had bowed, reducing ground clearance. Under warranty, Swift are fitting a cradle under the water tank to lift it up. Other items are the habitation door wasn’t locking on the remote, and on the shower, the catch had broken and a hinge pin had fallen out.

  1. The tank does seem to be very low even after Todds have had a go at it? As others have commented a Swift rethink is required and a recall to rectify! Come on Swift if you're reading the comments what about it? Bob we have a similar issue with the habitation door on our Pilote motorhome, sometimes it locks on the central locking and sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes it doesn't unlock on the central locking or the key either. I've found myself constantly spraying silicone spray on the sensors. This helps for awhile and then needs to be sprayed again. Something we have to live with I guess?

  2. The tank looks a bit better , did anyone get a look at the swift stand at the NEC , I know of a few that have had an issue with it catching , seems daft as its in such a central position , hope the new suspension helps out with it

  3. Yes Bob,i did notice that rather impressive swift kon-tiki on my last visit to todds.Did ask one of the guys there "is that Bob earnshaws old van?" "Yes,everyone asks that" lol. Hello to Jen and Poppy.

  4. Hi Bob, great video we are due to have that cradle fitted shortly on our Kon Tiki 794 2024 model. We also are getting VB air suspension but we only are getting the semi. Could you give us an indication of how much the tank is raised when you inflate your rear bags? We might wait and sell a kidney to get the front done aswell😂

  5. Ground clearance us ridiculously low. So many people grounding out and damaging. How they could design and build these is a very poor show. It's put me right off buying a Swift.

  6. Hi Bob, r.e. the hab door central locking, I had this problem on the Voyager (Ford based but I think it's the same issue) and I found it to be that those contacts get grease or dirt on them as when I clean them with a cloth when the issue arises the problem goes for another month or so. I also have the issue with the very low water tank but it's the waste one and Todd's have told me the same in that they don't think thisbis the solution. It wpuld be good to see in a few weeks wether you still think its worth it although difficult to judge with your shiny new air suspension 😃.

  7. We've never had an 2:28 issue with our voyager 594 grounding out, but recently fitted semi air suspension, and it's lifted it's a far bit with more height available if required. Our van is going into Todds tomorrow for new habitation door due to delamination of the window, also a rear garage door being fitted, they've also promised to repoint the sealant as it was pretty poor tbh, oh and were getting a microwave fitted 👍

  8. Ours was the same van as you have and we were so glad to get rid of it. Never away from the dealer getting warranty work done. Swift have lost it somewhere along the way.

  9. I do prefer our doors compared to the flimsy new ones they have fitted into this years models . Been lucky so far with the catch . Will wait to see the difference when the air suspension gets fitted before looking at a mod for the water tank . I don’t know why they have that cap underneath the tank as no one will ever use it . I did see somewhere that one person had their tank raised by modifying the brackets . If I had access to a pit I might have tried the same .

  10. Hello Bob, very interesting blog and what a shame to see you are having such annoying issues with your new motorhome. To be honest these niggles are so fustrating and time consumming for you to get put right, if the manucaturer had to pay the going hourly rate for peoples time involed in getting the van back to the dealer to rectify these issues I bet the majority of issues would disappear rapidly and quality would take a massive leap forward. The door issue you are experiencing we also have on our new Auto Trail Delaware and to be honest, I quite like it, as I don't have to worry about being locked out, well with that being said, one day it suddenly worked but luckily I was carrying the key. Take care and stay safe 👍💖

  11. Bob sorry to hear about your warranty issues ,when will manufacturers really get there act together and make something with pride in their products ,who ever was in charge of inspection and signing this off as good quality wants sacking this is not a get at Swift moan but the whole industry.😊

  12. Swift don’t seem to worry about low ground clearance, the larger vans with a long wheelbase are very easy to ground out on any undulations. Our 2019 Bessacarr 599 had the fresh water tank drain electric valve at the midway point of the wheelbase. I relocated it after the third time it got knocked off, the first time it hit a high spot on a temporary road surface. The second time was when reversing onto a pitch on a CAMC site. And the last time I run of my levelling blocks on soft ground and had to get the front wheels on solid ground, I thought the valve would clear a 3” block but the wheels were into the ground surface enough that the valve hit the block. I moved it after that. I’ve also scraped the road on a hair pin bend in Devon, but I never worked out which bit scraped.
That access cover looks very low and vulnerable, if it’s halfway along the wheel base I’d be very wary of the slightest hump in the ground/road. At least if you have air suspension you can raise it a bit.

  13. Had something similar on my self built i brought

Tank kept catching on road humps

And i court in scotland on a raised bit of concrete and put a hole in the tank in glen etive

In the end i ripped it all out

  14. Hi Bob great video as ever and well done on getting the niggles done hopefully the cradle and air suspension will help but I bet swift will end up redesigning that in the end
Good to see the door and bathroom door fixed even with testing the components can fail
Great to see your old van at the end bet it brought some memories back! All the best Daniel

  15. Big hello to you both…
A real problem, being low to the ground, glad it hasn’t stopped you, love the new van.
We enjoy our Autotrail Scout over here in New Zealand, unfortunately we’re an Island, must be cool to travel round Europe. Much enjoy you both here in NZ❤️

  16. My problem with the new swift is the grey water dump .it is so low to the ground i have knocked it off twice .
The last time i caught it going up the ramp on a ferry .i am now moving it back beside the fresh water dump ,got a new bracket made that goes on to the chassis ,not just screwed up in to the floor,as before .
