Wolverhampton is a city and metropolitan borough in the West Midlands, England, 13 miles northwest of Birmingham. The population in 2021 was 263,700.
Historically in Staffordshire, the city grew as a market town specialising in the wool trade. In the Industrial Revolution, it became a major centre for coal mining, steel production, lock making, and automotive manufacturing. The economy of the city is still based on engineering, including a large aerospace industry, as well as the service sector.

What’s your favourite scenic route?
Astonishing footage for people like me, born in Wolverhampton but who left for Australia in 1987!! I suppose it’s not particularly surprising that the town (now city) centre is unrecognisable to me except in the major and historic buildings that remain. All pedestrian walkways make me wonder where people park and I’m too old to walk the distance that this video took me, sadly. I would if course get lost in those sand place I used to walk once. Thanks for the video. It was cheaper and easier on the old legs than flying over to walk once more down Dudley, Victoria and Lichfield street – where I once worked – and narrow King Street where I once used to visit my doctor and of course Queen Square where I once worked too. Thank you so much.
