I've dived the Zenobia, its amazing, such a cool experience. Last time I was there the fish had been fed sausages.. so, we were advised to keep our fingers in a fist, just in case they were feeling hungry. There's also a relaxing but busy dive site near Ayia Napa, I think its called green bay, its shallow maybe 8m or something. Tonnes of life, turtles, some statues and things. It can be snorkelled or dived, but its a great chill dive just to see some life. But very busy owing to it being shallow and sheltered.
Cyprus is a wonderful place to dive and reasonably warm even when other places are starting to cool down, owing to it being quite southern. Its a good trip for us europe based divers as its not too expensive to get to.
Hi Mark, we stayed in Limassol in June and I dived the Zenobia with Crest dive who are based in Limassol. It’s a cracking trip and as an AOW diver I was able to dive both the outside of the wreck as well as penetrate inside. A huge wreck with lots of life. An abundance of Lion fish is immediately obvious but we also saw a turtle at 32m when diving through the RoRo doors. Large grouper cruise around along with big shoals of damsel fish and sea bream. An excellent trip where multiple dives are required to properly explore! I made a video of the trip if interested! https://youtu.be/I0j8QDMeTMI?si=o5kvSluzdjpRplTT
There is also great snorkelling at the Roman port at Amathous which is a marine protected area and has some rich Seagrass beds. As you might expect this also draws in the turtles along with nudibranch and other marine life. Well worth a visit.
The wreck is awesome. Been there in September. But Jesus Christ… the island is filled with severely obese, unfriendly British people looking for a tax free oasis. Srsly! You order an omelette for breakfast in a restaurant and they give you fucking french fries on the side and then they'll complain that your facial expression is weird when you are wondering who the fuck eats french fries for breakfast…
Be aware they treat Cyprus like a party island. The wreck zenobia is as said awesome and huge, but you have to be near larnaka.
Avoid limassol and paphos! Russians drive like absolute lunatics and the prices are like in germany. Me and my gf ate a steak for 120 € 🥲🥲🥲
There are good restaurant, especially tavernas though.
If you go for the wreck fine! But for the rest: avoid the island! Its dirty. Plastic rubbish everywhere. There are netter places, for less money, with nicer people and less tourists.
The Halloumi cheese is awesome though and I found the best indian restaurant IMO.
But I would't go there again and wouldn't recommend people to go there.
Also the way they treat the animals is absolutely horrible. They feed the fishes for tourism. And also the turtles. Especially the poor turtles from so called party boats, where drunk idiots blasting loud music can snorkel with hand fed marine life resulting in the turtles getting used to these boats and recognising they will be fed. So they swom close to the ships. When the drunk boat is done they start their engines and drive off but not without shredding these poor creatures into pieces.
Not to mention that they dump fisher nets all around the island. My Instructor is part of a group trying to fight these nets, called ghostnetdiving. But they cant keep up. So the nets are standing, not laying on the ground, standing in the ocean and suffocating everything that gets caught in them. Attracting more predators and killing them aswell.
Really… dont go there. There are better places near nature conservation parks wirh healthy reefs and no fishing or overtourism.
