The day was beautiful, we (me and my mate) woke up and decided to head towards a destination that promised to be great for the spectacular view we could get there. So, after the failed attempt, back last January, when we tried to reach the top of the “Sasso del Ferro” mount and enjoy the beautiful and spectacular view of the whole Lake Maggiore, attempt failed due to the cable car that takes to the top of the mount being unbelievably closed (see the video: ), we decided to head, again, to Laveno Mombello, a comune (municipality) in the Province of Varese (in the italian region Lombardy) on Lake Maggiore but, this time, to then get the ferry-boat, cross the lake (that would have saved us lots of kilometers to reach the same location by car along almost half of the western coast of the lake in the Piedmont region) to get to Intra-Verbania comune, a municipality in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province, to reach our final destination, named “Piancavallo” that can be reached through the small village called Premeno, via a rather steep road that takes to a car park, where you can leave the car. Nearby, the auxological and scientific italian Istitute equally named “Piancavallo” is located ( ). There’s also a small bar/restaurant named “La Baita” (in the municipality of Oggebbio: and that serves amazing traditional food, such as polenta and roe deer, where we had just a couple of rolls before commencing the walk. Then, through a nice and quite easy pathway, in just an hour walk, we reached nearly the top of the mount (the “Cima del Morissolo”) with just about 100m of level difference from the car park (around 1200m ASL). The “Cima del Morissolo” is the top of the mount and has an altitude of 1313 m ASL. The last few tens of meters walk to reach the real top are a bit hard and also narrow, so because of all the gears I had with me didn’t proceed to get to the top but rather enjoyed the nevertheless outstanding views that can be had from there (near most of the trenches and tunnels/galleries shown in the video, which are just some of the many galleries that form most of the “Linea Cadorna” defensive system near the italian-swiss border built from 1899 upto 1918, and during WW1).

Along the entire foot-path it is possible to enjoy some spectacular views of Lake Maggiore and, if weather is good and the air is clean, you can enjoy a breath-taking view that covers the entire lake Maggiore, the “Cannero” castles in the middle of the lake ( ), the mount “Resegone” upto mount Tamaro. Along the footpath track there are some tunnels and trenches that date back from 1899 upto WW1. The entire pathway is just an hour walk from Piancavallo and it’s just a walk rather than an excursion but of a great effect. Weather was really good, though a bit hot (around 30°C, 86°F) but, because of the breeze, totally bearable. If you want to know more, please visit Google: or .

Video
Clips shot entirely hand-held, in MF, with 2 Canon EOS M mirror-less cameras, one used for the main shots, the other as a B_Roll to take mostly pictures (used in this video). The main clips were instead shot in 4K 3912×1666 2.35:1 RAW anamorphic mode, 24fps. I used primarily my EOS M mount lenses, such as the 11-22mm, the 18-55mm and the zoom 55-200mm, which are all IS STM. I also used a couple of Gobe variable ND filters. Video edited primarily in DaVinci Resolve 16 (latest v 16.2.3) after a preliminary correction/conversion of the clips through MLVApp (v.1.11) as for exposure, contrast, WB, sharpness, vividness and color saturation etc. I also used CyberLink’s PowerDirector 16 to generate the pictures animated part of the video. I also used/applied a specific color receipt to enhance image quality. All clips were also stabilized in post where required and some transitions have also been put in place. I collected a total of nearly 36GB of RAW footage that, after conversion and corrections, became as much as 117GB (disk space) of usable footage. Video rendered/exported in full 4K UHD 3840×2160 resolution at 24fps. Video file-size: 8.02GB, average bit rate: 155Mbps.
