The country of India stole my heart when I first stepped foot on its soil back in February of 2018. I was so blown away by the culture, food, architecture, and people that I knew I had to go back for round two just ten months later in November, this time with my travel buddy, Sam from Samuel & Audrey. We spent 18 days exploring seven different cities and had an incredible experience neither of us will ever forget!

With over 780 official languages spoken in India and over 1,600 once dialects are factored in, India has the second-highest number of languages in the world, behind only Papua New Guinea. While Sam and I explored the sixth city on our trip, Kolkata, I asked our awesome guide Anirban if he could teach us some words and phrases in Bengali, the official language of the state of West Bengal.

Bengali was very different to the other languages I tried to learn in India. It was kind of mellifluous and seemed to almost have some Latin influences.

So, how did we do in our first Bengali lesson? And if you have any more words or phrases in Bengali you think I should know, please let me know in the comments!
