Christmas in London, my HONEST opinion

Welcome to my London Christmas Vlog! We hit all the must see spots, Borough Market, Afternoon Tea at The Goring Hotel, Portobello Market in Notting Hill, Buckingham Palace, Dishoom at Kings Cross, Big Ben, amd Christmas Markets! My favorite neighborhood was definitely Shoreditch with all the vintage shops. The UK does Christmas in such a special way I can’t wait to explore more.

  1. Great video and I'm pleased you found London enjoyable overall. As a local, I live just outside the London boundary, I detest the city. Way too expensive and it's not authentic England. As has been said above, visit some regional areas away from the Southeast. The Cotswolds are nice and all but you may find it overpriced also. Suggest the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales for authentic England. The comments indicate you're from Massachusetts. IMHO New England is way more enjoyable than the 'old country', Big Ben or not. Forget Notting Hill, give me Bunker Hill anytime.

  3. You may find it interesting that the tower people usually call Big Ben, is actually the name for the hour bell contained inside (though got no problem with people calling it Big Ben just thought you may find it interesting thats all, not sure if someone else has said the same thing though lol), its actual name since 2012 is Elizabeth Tower to mark the Diamond Jubilee, since the only previous Monarch to get to that landmark year was Victoria who died in 1901 not that long after her Jubilee.

Are a few theories as to why it got the name Big Ben (actually has a crack on one side of it which makes it give a rather dull ring) like was the name of a boxer who was really tall compared to others is one of them was therefore nicknamed Big Ben.

Is actually a like at least one jail cell inside as well, but you can't access it from inside the tower itself, it can only be accessed by going through the House of Commons (where the elected MPs sit), though the sargeant at arms is the person responsible for detaining people still even now, its last time of use was in 1880 when essentially an elected MP refused to swear allegiance to Victoria.

  4. If you adore Indian food try City spice in brick lane (you visited in the vlog) as an alternative to dishoom, Cotswolds, York, Bath, Canterbury, all the castles so much to see…….loved the vlog ❀

  5. Hey central London is like being in TImes Square at Christmas, so of course its gonna be jammed packed….Afternoon tea at the Ritz is the one though…Hope u enjoyed some of your stay….If you liked DIshoom next time your in town try Tayyabs in East London

  6. Nandos may be a South African company but its main dishes such as Chicken Peri Peri is Portuguese not "African" as you described..
As for McDonald's in the USA vs UK and Europe. Perhaps you should watch a compassion video and observe the seriously over the top "chemicals" put in the USA food. Your new administration will be addressing that it seems. We know your version has many chemicals on colour but addictive flavours.
Glad you enjoyed eating proper food from the other places. Definitely, try getting out of London to see the beauty of the UK. Many islands which have white sands, turquoise waters, many have amazing trees, flowers and fauna which grows fine this far north.
Personal opinion would be from spiring, but even May, June then end of August, September and first 2 weeks of October. Its a maritime temperate climate so July and August tend to be wetter.
Try outlying spots like Scilly isles, and the south west England. Don't forget especially north Wales and snowdonia. Northern Ireland, from Mourne mountains or lakes in Fermanagh. The Antrim coast road. But don't raise politics or religion regardless. Few understand its not a black and white matter and don't do horrible tours showing trouble spots. Nobody would go to any other city and want to see where riots occured or people lost life. I personally find it embarrassing, depressing and time to let wounds close. Tourist supporting those gloomy things unknowingly are keeping division. Northern Ireland has far more and better things than that nonsense. Northern England, be it east and the Yorkshire Dales and Moors. City of York and its cathedral and old streets like Shambles are beautiful too. Of course the north west of England and Cumbria, the lake district is outstanding and if you travel from east to west you'll see the Pennines. If around Manchester, the Peak District is not far.
Of course Scotia/Alba/Scotland. Whichever you prefer. Isle of Skye, Loch Lomond or further north into the Highlands. From Inverness to Fort William. So much beauty, number of scenic spots. Wow. I know the out Hebredies, or the Orkney to Shetland islands are harder to get to but spectacular beaches, people and again as I've suggested mostly rural areas and not cities, there are of course excellent cities too. I know you mentioned the cotswolds and i wish you a fantastic visit. Stunning there too. It's a very diverse group of islands and many peoples live upon them.
Sorry you arrived during Storm Darragh, but many had an unusual red weather warning which is why those parks were closed. If branches fell or trees toppled you can hopefully understand they expected a bigger storm than what turned out hitting.
Save trips on your global travels.
Enjoy your holiday time in whatever way you celebrate and all the best in 2025. Stay safe

  8. Hi Vera, 1st time viewer and hey, love the vlog and think you’ve done an amazing job of summing up the windy winter trip to my home city of London. Some great hotels and locations on your journey and awesome to see how we shape up in hospitality and tourism experience as we have so much history to explore. I would definitely recommend a revisit during a mid May to mid June period sometime, when the weather can be more inviting and spring time is in full bloom. Definitely recommend a visit to Kensington Royal Park, followed by a tour of the Royal Albert Hall (right by the park) and possibly even a meal in the restaurant after your tour; and to complete the experience if there is a concert on, of interest, at the time, you will be blown away by the experience and just the nostalgia of the whole thing! And for shopping, Harrods and other great shops are a 5/10min taxi ride from the RAH itself. (may as well stay in a nearby hotel tbhπŸ˜‚) Hitting the subscribe button πŸ‘Œβ€οΈ Safe travels.

  9. Great vlog and pretty accurate insights into London! It has been especially hectic recently in the West End, and is definitely usually easier to get around during midweek.
Late Spring & Summer is another amazing way to see London too as youll see how green the place is (it's the largest urban forest in the world).
Other areas / things to do to are Greenwich (South East London is generally known for its many views of the London skyline due to it being hilly), Peckham (rooftop bars), Primrose Hill, Camden, Dalston (nightlife), the Columbia Rd Flower Market on sundays, Brick Lane (best curries), as well as the many many many pubs – too many to mention, although the less touristy ones as you get outside of zone 1 tend to be better.

  10. I m English brought up in N London. Agree 100 p cent re crowds. Was also because they ve got a not so clever idea to divert a lot of buses along Oxford st etc and that in turn created double people on pavements! I went to try an afternoon high tea too but at Kew to a quaint tea place around 120 yrs old! I saw some lights and then sat at Outernet.. interactive lights on ceilings and walls …I never made it to many lights as aim was to see peace garden in Grosvenor square site of former us embassy 1000s of white rose lights. Glad you enjoyed it all and hope you come again.

  11. I lived in Portobello! Such a great neighbourhood, but in all honesty you need to get out of central London and see more neighbourhoods like that – London is AMAZING when you hang out in local spots, not the city centre.
