Goodbye 2024

As one year ends and another begins it’s a time of reflection, looking back on a year with ups and down, good times and not so good times.

I’m based in the Scottish Highlands and I use a VW campervan to access the great outdoors, where I climb hills, ride my e-bike or gravel bike and just visit some of those places I’ve never been to. I’ve been climbing hills and mountains all over the world for 50 years and I’m a former editor of Climber Magazine and The Great Outdoors Magazine.

  2. What a pertinent story Cameron. The places and ups and downs in life you talk about resonate closely with me. For example I myself was in Le Puy-en-Velay this year to begin the Via Podiensis PilgrimsTrail, and happened upon a beautiful artwork in a gallery there that I've just purchased with my mother's inheritance. And I repeated the TMB again after twenty one years for the opportunity for reflection that the hills provide, and pitched my little tent (no campervan for me unfortunately!) at the same campsite in Le Chapeux that you & Gina stayed at.

I've never really wished to repeat LDW paths, but I saw the TMB second time around through new eyes, as my mindset was in a new place now. The same route, but a totally new & different experience.

I wish you an adventurous and happy new year too. I have many plans & places that I am about to embark on and embrace beginning soon, which will take me all through 2025, God willing.

Keep well, & wishing you & all your family all the best for 2025, and beyond.

  3. That looked like Peter Lumley in the photo with you next to the tent ? Had his "Backpacking" paperback book in the 70's and his mag articles. much better equipment today though, lighter, compact & tougher. All the best for many adventures in 2025.

  4. Hi Cameron, what a brilliant video to end 2024..Wishing you and all your family a Happy and Healthy 2025 and look forward to next years videos,Ps May even meet you again next time you are in M&S in Fort William.. πŸŽ‰β€

  5. Always lovely to watch your videos…only a couple of years behind you and no intention of giving up a lifelong passion for the outdoors by foot and by camper…keep leading the way for the mature explorer CameronπŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ₯Ύ wishing you both a wonderful 2025.

  6. I remember reading about your RLS Trail experiences in TGO magazine. One of the big things to come out was that several of you ditched your heavy boots for trainers in some parts. it was a pivotal discovery that made me open to buying a pair of the original Brasher Boots when they came out and I've been a fan of lightweight footwear ever since. It also made me buy a copy of RLS book and follow his adventures with Celestine πŸ™‚

  7. Love your videos Cameron. No one has your presentation skills and such a wonderful voice. Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures now you’ve got new heart plumbing!

  8. Wish you continued recovery from the Op and fitness increasing,
Nice to see the hut at stat of video, I have stopped there for a coffee several times on ski mountaineering trips after long flog up the valley in deep snow, but nice speedy descent back down😊

  9. You have such a restful voice it's a shame that you don't have a TV programme that could reach more people to get out to the great outdoors and improve their health.

  10. Thankyou for inspiring those of us struggling with worn limbs from too many mountain journeys. The Outer Hebrides this year i think with the camper van. It will be a first . A perhaps a hill or two. Have a great 2025 Cameron
