  1. Hi can I just say I’m mark I joined this channel few months ago I loved this video. I live in Wirral near Liverpool so not too far from Chester. I come to Chester quite a lot love the history and I even do lots of research on Chester as well. Some great information to let you know. Where Off the Wall Pub is by the Roman Amphitheater there is remains of a Roman Tower Wall and if you go into off the wall pub into their beer garden there is another part of the Roman wall from that Roman tower wall remains. Thought I’d let you know. Like you I’m the same love digging and finding more and more out. Look forward to more of these from you.

  2. A few years back Foregate street was being renovated and as they dug they found pieces of pottery dated back to Emperor Nero. What I found poetically amusing was it was right outside Cafe Nero.

  3. I know it's not Roman related but if you are here again the Bridge of Sighs is worth a moment. Not many know about it especially tourists.
Known as the Bridge of Sighs this is a footbridge over Chester Canal. It was probably built in the late 1700s. It was used to take prisoners from the City gaol to the former Chapel of St John in the south wing of the Bluecoat School. Here they could make their peace with God before execution.

  4. Chester is a fabulous place. My home town. I grew up in a small village a few miles from Chester, which also had Roman links. My parents house is old, not quite as old as Chester at 1765, but still an amazing house to be brought up in.

  5. Unfortunately, a large amount of Roman remains were destroyed to make way for the Forum Shopping Centre, after the Old Market Hall was demolished in the 1960's. Civic vandalism.

  6. Such a great video! I enjoyed it so much. Definitely subscribing! To add, of all the videos I have watched so far on Roman Britain yours is one of the most well put together in every way. I'm Kim from Oklahoma, USA 😊

  7. Thank you. This was charming. I spent a year in Chester in 1987 and chose it from my knowledge, from a previous visit, of it a thrilling Roman history. I lived on Bridge Street, and toured all the sights you covered, and your film was a trip down memory lane & I will revisit as soon as I can. Chester is simply stunning for those with a Iove of our ancient past.

  8. Deva, Deva gaudeamus! Chester, Chester let us rejoice 😀. Truly a most beautiful Roman city whose city walls are still intact. At one time it was destined to be the capital of England which indicates the importance of how the Romans perceived it. Born & bred in Chester, always in my heart.
