#05 Capture the city of Nuremberg, Most dreamy lake in Bavaria – Chiemsee, Ludwig’s Versailles!
Here, I document some of my photography trips across Germany with my Fujifilm XT5. I’m not well-versed in photography techniques; I simply hope to capture and preserve unforgettable moments of light and shadow. In a time when people may no longer keep physical photo albums, I aim to slowly accumulate more images here, creating a visual diary of my journey.

Nuremberg is a city where history and modernity blend seamlessly. Its medieval charm and vibrant energy are evident in every street and building. At its heart lies the Central Market, home to Germany’s oldest Christmas market, a tradition that continues to bring joy across the seasons.
Although devastated in World War II, Nuremberg has been meticulously rebuilt, showcasing extraordinary craftsmanship and resilience. Walking its streets is a testament to the German people’s dedication to preserving their heritage.
The city’s essence flows along its canals, crossed by bridges like Meat Bridge, Museum Bridge, and Charles Bridge, linking past and present. The canals mirror restored historical buildings, reflecting the city’s former grandeur. Beyond the bridges lies Beautiful Fountain Square, where a spire adorned with sculptures symbolizes the ideals of the Holy Roman Empire. Nearby churches stand majestically, anchoring the cityscape with their solemn presence.
From Nuremberg Castle, the city below unfolds as a harmonious blend of activity and history. Though our visit to the castle was brief, its grandeur left a lasting impression. Hidden within the city, the Stadtmuseum Fembohaus offers a tranquil retreat. One of the few Renaissance-style buildings spared during the war, it vividly showcases 950 years of Nuremberg’s story, contrasting pre- and post-war eras and highlighting the city’s enduring spirit.
Leaving the city’s hum behind, we journeyed to Bavaria’s Lake Chiemsee, a vast and serene dreamscape. At its center lies Herreninsel, home to King Ludwig II’s Herrenchiemsee Palace, inspired by Versailles. Its opulent Hall of Mirrors reflects Ludwig’s unrelenting imagination. Though unfinished, the palace embodies a poignant beauty, blending grandeur with melancholy, mirroring Ludwig’s fleeting yet fantastical life.
We reached Herreninsel via ferry and walked through a forested path, the lively hum of mosquitoes adding an unexpected twist to our journey. Emerging from the woods, the palace and its gardens appeared like a storybook vision. Inside, though photography was prohibited, the intricate details spoke volumes of Ludwig’s artistic ambition, combining Versailles’ splendor with Bavarian creativity. Behind the palace, a tree-lined avenue led to a lakeside view reminiscent of Versailles, further highlighting Ludwig’s unique interpretations.

Nearby, the King Ludwig II Museum provided deeper insights into the king’s life, with displays of exquisite furnishings and personal artifacts.
Fraueninsel, a smaller, tranquil island, offered a contrast to Herreninsel’s grandeur. Its peaceful village and the historic Frauenwörth Abbey exuded serenity. Narrow paths led to colorful homes, vibrant gardens, and a pottery workshop showcasing handcrafted ceramics. As evening fell, the island glowed with golden sunlight, and the lake shimmered, its gentle waves lapping at the shore.
Fraueninsel’s charm lies in its harmony of nature and humanity, creating a dreamlike escape. As the ferry carried us away, Lake Chiemsee’s poetic allure lingered in our hearts, a lasting memory of serenity and wonder.
This journey from Nuremberg to Lake Chiemsee was more than a geographic passage—it was an exploration of history, culture, and nature. Each stop unfolded a story, blending reflections on the past with reverence for the present, leaving an indelible mark on both the steps we took and the hearts we carried forward.
