Which Airline has the Best and Worst Business Class seat? Most of you would agree that the seat is the most important element of the passenger experience, especially on a long-haul flight. But there are so many types of long-haul Business Class seats out there…Suites, lie flat, angle flat, herringbones, etc. Here’s my personal take:

The worst Business Class seat is a pair of seats with 2 different levels when in full recline. You can hardly get out from the window side and are so close to the ground from the aisle side. These seats are installed on Philippine Airlines A330s and Royal Air Maroc (RAM) Boeing 787-8s.

The next worst Business Class seat belongs to airlines that still fly Boeing 777s in a 2-3-2 seat configuration. Emirates, Ethiopian, Turkish Airlines, Korean Air, PAL, and Egypt Air join this list…The list doesn’t stop here. Many inferior business class seat designs, such as the inward-facing herringbone seats on Virgin Atlantic and Air New Zealand, Lufthansa’s old Business Class, and Turkish Airlines’ narrow Business Class, all made it to the worst list.

Now let’s take a look at some of the best Business Class seats out there…The upcoming Qatar Airways Qsuite NextGen has features to fold away the wall petition to create a double suite that faces each other. Airlines from Japan (ANA and JAL) have some of the industry’s best seats installed on their new aircraft. How about Singapore Airlines Business Class seat?

Let me know if you agree or disagree with my choices. Please share with me your best and worst Business Class seat experience in the comment section!

  1. ANA "The Room" was wonderful!!! .. especially our original seats were in the last row in Economy. Got paged to the counter at the last minute and we got an upgrade to business!!!

  2. Thai Airways business class seats are old and shabby. But the service is dreadful as Thai are trying to cut services to save money. Given that I paid around $3,000, I wonder where all the money went.

  3. You missed one Airline out -> British Airways. They also have refurbished their Club World into 4 seats abreast only: X – XX – X, which is now very comfortable and in my opinion one of the best business class seats.

  4. The new business class seats are smaller, has matchbox place to put foot in. These seats are not comfy, restrictive in terms of space around shoulders. I just flew on air france a350 and 777-300 , they are the worse business class seats. Old business class seats in turkish with 2-3-2 config has better leg room.

  5. The Virgin Atlantic/Air New Zealand seat design is 20 years old. It was groundbreaking at the time as it was the first business class to offer direct aisle to all seats and a proper mattress. Obviously extremely weak product now and they both need to retrofit these aircraft with a newer product. I know Virgin Atlantic is in current design to replace them with another updated version of their A350 suite.

  6. I love Singapore Airlines and prefer them over KLM. Would like to fly Business with Singapore Airlines one day.
If you have practical tips how to book cheap intercontinental Business Class tickets, that would be nice.

  7. Another pretty bad business class I get a lot is the Asiana A330-300 ones. 2-2-2 angle-flat seats that seem to often have issues, similar to the Thai airways ones you showed. My last flight when I checked in they had to change my seat because the one I chose had a malfunction. The new one I got had a some issues with the fold-out footrest.

  8. There are certain seats on Singapore that don’t have angled footwells. Choose those for better sleep. However, all seats do have the same constraint of not automated lay flat feature.

    As always, great video, Sam!
