Camino Frances: Day 1 to Day 4 – Saint Jean to Pamplona | Walking the Camino de Santiago

Day 1 to Day 4 Walking the Camino de Santiago, the French Way.
Walking from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Pamplona, 70km total over 4 days.

0:00 – DAY 0 – Arrive to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port from Madrid via high speed train.

Our first day in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port included a stop at the pilgrims office for our first stamp and registration. We purchased our camino shells. Ate crepes in France. Purchased any extra supplies (they have stores for things like hiking poles, shoes, ponchos) and explored Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. We checked into Gîte Beilari, the most iconic Albergue in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and enjoyed our first pilgrims meal with fellow pilgrims.

1:31 – DAY 1 – 9KM | Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Albergue La Borda. We decided to start our camino light by walking to Albergue La Borda in the Pyrenees. Part of the Napoleon Route on the Camino Frances. The walk only took about 4 hours but was pretty up hill. We wanted to stay at Albergue La Borda because it is owned by a retired French Chef and is one of the best on the trail.

4:17 *Section includes a full Albergue Tour*

5:21 – DAY 2 – 17KM | La Borda to Roncesvalles On the Napoleon Route up and over the Pyrenees. We are glad we split this into 2 days because the hike down to Roncesvalles Albergue was hard.

*Roncesvalles is the most iconic Albergue on the Camino Frances and includes 100 bed dorms, meals with 2 restaurants, and a pilgrims blessing in a church. It is a restored monastery.

8:41 – DAY 3 – 21KM | Roncesvalles to ZubiriFelt like our first true camino day. Mostly through farmland to Zubiri where we checked into a private Albergue (dorm). We arrived at 2:00pm after 6 hours hiking.

12:06 – DAY 4 – 22KM | Zubiri to Pamplona

We hiked to Pamplona on Easter which aligned with Basque Day so when we arrived to Pamplona it was a party!
