France has been hit by a powerful storm, Herminie, which has brought heavy rain, hurricane-force winds and flooding in several regions. The situation has led to significant disruptions to the transport system and evacuations in the affected areas.

In the city of Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine region), the rising waters of the Ille Canal have forced the municipal authorities to evacuate residents.

“We are seeing water levels higher than in 1981, when there was significant flooding,” Mayor Nathalie Appere said at a news conference.
The mayor warned that water levels could continue to rise throughout the next day.
Local authorities have opened a crisis centre and warned residents to take precautions.

The storm has caused strong gusts of wind in Normandy, reaching 140 km/h (87 mph), leading to the cancellation of several train services. The main disruptions are on the Paris-Cherbourg and Caen-Rennes routes.

The French Meteorological Service warned of yellow and orange alert levels in several departments. The situation remains challenging and authorities are advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel and monitor forecast updates.
