So I recently traveled to the US with my family from Japan, and I was a bit stunned on how much things cost in America compared to Japan. Granted, I was somewhat expecting it given the the current exchange rate between the US dollar and Japanese yen at the time, but when I was actually there and saw the prices first hand, it really hit me. I still remember the days when everything in Japan was expensive and the US was cheap. So in the video, I wanted to share with all of you my own personal experience on how much thighs costs in the US vs Japan…I think you may be surprised as me. I should mention that I was staying in Los Angeles more specifically Venice Beach of all places so the prices may be higher or lower depending on the prices you’re referencing in the states. Definitely, let me know if it’s different for where you live or where you’ve visited. The cost of living in Japan vs USA just seemed quite different during this last visit. Let me know what you think.

The Covid Overreaction Agenda did this to the USA. So…… are you saying the view moving to Japan will be expensive is a myth, or…… that it is property that does that?
California is not USA.
I currently befriend this girl that currently lives in Japan, and she informed me about this. Now I see it…..she's pretty cool friend.
US brand instant ramen is a scam. I drive to an asian supermarket 45 minutes away, and not only do I get double the size but its the same price as our tiny US ones.
Murica 🦅 🇺🇸 squeezing the life out of the middle class, brought to you by America’ corporate goons on both sides of the aisle.
Lol, Taco Bell is horrible in every place, no matter what
I’m a bit shocked how expensive things are in LA. I’m also in the US and nearly everything in LA is 50-100% more, even those 2+ dollar noodles are 1-1.50 dollars where I live. That Taco Bell is 100% more. For good or bad I don’t think California in general is a good representation of the US as a whole.
Shouldn't compare place like la or nyc to the rest of america
This is quite surprising
Hey guys just wanna tell you that Jesus loves you all
In Louisiana gas costs $2.60 a gallon
There HAS to be a way to get cheaper milk in Japan.
Other than that though I loved everything about this video 🙂
I am moving to Japan
Those taco bell prices are like double those of Orlando, FL, holy shit.
But yeah, i went to Taco Bell once in Umeda, Osaka…it just wasn't it. My 'fast food' choice was usually cocoichi in Osaka… but i did want to try a couple of things to see the difference. Taco Bell was just so limited. McDonalds was better than the US, IMO. I almost never eat McD in the US for a reason
Also, no Baja Blast! Though melon soda is a good alternative
Really … CALIFORNIA and you had to go to LA.. CALIFORNIA'S CURRENT policymaking has made the state absurdly expensive compared to cities and medium town on the EAST COAST which is traditionally a bell weather for the rest of the USA. The single biggest factor that determines the price of goods and services is the cost of fuel. I suggest you visit more of the interior of the USA to pass this judgment.. right fuel (diesel) in the BALTIMORE market is about 3.75 USD.. CALIFORNIA IS about 5.05..
USA is no longer a producing country, it is only a consuming country.
Thanks for this video. The same in Canada. I was stunned how expensive it was in Canada compared to China. If you can compare the price between China and Japan, that will be very informative. My feeling is it will be comparable. Living in the North America is a lot more expensive.
While lower prices are always appreciated by everybody – as a reminder, the prices are a reflection on the salary ranges of the population that is being served. So that means Japan's salary ranges are somewhat lower than what is paid in the U.S.
12 Eggs at Ralph’s/kroger in Southern California were $9.50 yesterday
Bro LA is the one of the most expensive places to live in the whole country. Probably top 2, new york being one too. A 30 minute uber ride costed me $100 in LA. It's ridiculous. Japanese taxis and uber is like $10 for the same ride
7/11 food in the US is garbage, only Hawaii has decent 7/11
Japan is becoming a third world country if they don’t embrace immigration.
Double and triple the price in USA, and you're taxed half of your money. Americans are fucked in the ass from every angle
Not sure how he is calculating the percentages but i almost had a stroke trying to figure it out
Corporate America constantly screwing is over 😭
California has relatively cheap milk prices, since california is where most of the country's milk is produced. However the "local's discount" is probably mostly overtaken by the fact that you're in one of the most expensive cities in the country. And of course Milk in Japan is just generally a more expensive commodity.
One note about theme parks (though I don't know about Japan's Universal and Disney destinations) a lot of smaller Japanese theme parks are pay per ride and have smaller (if any) cover charge just to enter the park. This can benefit tourists who might make a theme park a part of their day, rather than their whole day, as the only way the massive cover charge and free rides works out is if you stay all day riding more rides than your body is likely willing. Though places like Universal/Disney/Sixflags make a majority of their income through concessions, which is why they do the large entry fee with no ride fees since it incentivizes staying in the park and paying 7 dollars for a bottle of water.
There are definitely benefits to both models, a park designed around you staying all day is great… if you want to stay all day, but if you want to ride a couple rides while visiting other nearby destinations the "per ride" approach of many Japanese theme parks ends up being cheaper and more flexible. But it all depends on what you want to do.
Americans don't really "spend an afternoon at a theme park" they either go for the entire day or they don't go at all.
I've also found that the price gouging of theme parks and movie theaters is actually not common practice in other countries, the "venue tax" is not normal and it'd be nice if other american's started to realize that a place refusing to allow you to bring your own food into the venue so they can sell it to you for insane prices is actually a scam.
There is tariff and hidden taxes in the US
i need to go to japan ASAP
Compared to the US, Japan is heaven. Wonderful to think such a place exists. I would like to live there!
man times changed fast, eggs are now $8+ if you can find them at all lol
It's always amusing in Animal Crossing communities when people get up in arms over Nook's prices. The number of times I have explained that Bells are based on the Japanes Yen, and not the American Dollar. 😂 I tell them to remove two 0s before judging Nook for his prices. He's actually charging us a super reasonable amount!
LA prices are high because the products must be fire proof. 🤭
Bruh, ur face expression's are too much
It’s probably because they don’t have an illegal immigrant problem propping up the cost of living
日本の物価は安いですが、その代わり平均的な日本人の所得はアメリカ人の最下層よりも低いですよ。
