This video is about how much does it cost to travel the world in 2025? The Retirement Travelers, John & Bev, give travel budget advice and more details on 3 types of world travel budgeting. The travel budgets we review are $3000/month, $6000/month, and $10000/month. We share the main cost factors that drive the cost of world travel like cost of country and speed of travel. We share these monthly and yearly budgets for low-cost and high-cost countries as well and show how we try to balance these to maintain our travel budget.

  1. There are so many ways to travel the world with varying costs. We would love to hear your experience based on your type of travel. Please share below or with our Facebook Community Group. Happy journeys in 2025, John and Bev

  2. It’s none of our damn business! You don’t owe us divulging your finances. No explanation necessary. But what is your vpn, just curious

  3. I think you are pretty accurate. We spent a month in the UK last year and it was about $13k including airfare from California and we were not super extravagant! We did enjoy a couple of west end productions, but did not have any “fancy” meals and traveled by train everywhere except for one three day small group tour. All hotels.

  4. Thank you for your videos and recommendations. I tell all my friends about go-go, slow-go and no-go years, it's so inspiring. On a side note my adult son saw me watching this video, he seen me watching your videos before, and he said, "oh this couple is so nice".

  5. Great video. Our experience has been that our budget tends to flex up and down depending on location and what we want from that location. Our first year out, we tried the lower end of spending- it was fun. Second year, we loosened our budget and spent more. This time out it seems to be a bit of both and it feels like we have a nice balance.

  6. Proficient advice John & Bev. We have the last 9 of the lower 48 in the Airstream, with our two pups. The more we're away, the closer I get my husband to "get on board" with downsizing. I believe your assessment is spot on ! Happy trails and continue to stay safe.

  7. Love the quality content John and Bev, don’t know how you find the time and energy to travel and do the channel but I’m glad you do!! I am guessing that you plan what you want to do rather than do what you think you should do for the good of the channel and that in itself creates good content? We are from the UK and 2 weeks into our 11 week SE Asia trip, Philippines at present, loving it, always check for your tips when we go somewhere new!!

  8. This video is so informative and accurate. I'm with you I'm not going to travel to a country to sit in my Airbnb and not eat out or experience the culture or go on tours. I might want to do that when I'm older and less mobile but when I'm young I want to see everything I can. Your video definitely explains how where you go and how your costs are going to be affected. I think, one thing that has ruined my expectations is that we have been traveling since we gotten married, We generally do about 6 weeks a year. So, learning to budget might be a challenge for us in the beginning because our budget will probably be smaller. Off to look at your website. Thank you for all the time you put into your channel.

  9. Thank you for another great video. You always have excellent information that is useful and tips that help people do their own research.

  10. I plan to start my slow travel this March 2025. I will travel by myself with $4000/month. Spain for 3 months, followed by South America 1 to 12month?; then Taiwan 1 or 2 years and then Europe. I am tri-lingual: English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese. I am 69 year old male and plan to travel 3 to ? years and then settle down. Any suggestions or thoughts? I have full VA medical and Medicare parts A/B and had lived overseas before for 32 years; Spanish speaking America and Asia Taiwan.

  11. Thanks guys and also one book I recommend everyone read this year is Limitless Drive. It’s a transformative guide to the mindset and habits that set the most successful apart. This book taught me how to break through limitations and think like the top 1%. Truly life-changing and a must-read!

  12. My husband and I slow travel full-time with the $36,000/year goal in mind. We typically stay in locations a month at a time and visit the low cost countries more frequently. We also incorporate house/pet sitting in our travels. We’re not tourists; we’re simply living for a time in each country we visit. Your video and assessment of this travel budget is completely accurate according to our experiences so far. Great job! We truly love the slow travel way of life at this time of our lives 😄👍🏼 And we love to watch your active travel and are inspired by all that you two accomplish ✨

  13. i will start slow traveling next year alone mostly in south east asia. this budget guide is very helpful. thank you. btw, I saw another travel guide video on things not to do in an airplane. don't drink coffee, tea, and opened bottled water because the water tank might be rusty or dirty (airlines try to cut costs as much as possible so water tank maintenance is very low priority).

  14. FINALLY! Realistic costs!! So many You Tubers sugarcoat the true costs and set unrealistic expectations for their viewers. That's just wrong! Thanks for keeping it real and enjoy your travels. I'll follow!

  15. The most important takeaway for me is that now is the youngest and the healthiest we will ever be, and we want fully experience what we want to do now. It resonates with me so much. I am 60 and I am retiring in May. We plan to travel 3-4 months a year and spend the rest of time at home to hone in our golf and pickleball skills with friends.

  16. Do you plan the duration of the stay or do you stay as long as you feel like before moving on ? is this the difference between active and slow travel ?

  17. Great video, thanks for all the valuable info.
We are in our 3rd year (of 8-month per year) and find your numbers very realistic, but the number of countries and experiences by far exceed ours. Very impressive!

  18. You articulated well what I was losely thinking. Some of the YouTube videos that talk about traveling on $50-100 a day misrepresents what it would be like.

I very interesting video would be what you think a person would have to have (net worth wise) to accomplish full time travel in these three modes…

What do you think the numbers would look like?

  19. Excellent overview. We have just entered our 5th year of slow travel. On average we have spent around $100K annually. We take full advantage of points (IHG, AMEX, and Chase), we integrate 8-10 weeks of pet sitting annually and I will pay extra for beachfront or water-views with decks. And we like good concert seats, small excursions and a Michelin starred restaurant a few times a year. We cruise between 60-80 days a years, primarily for repositioning cruises. Though after a wonderful world cruise last year, we’ve booked another one for 2027. The best news is that our nest egg is actually LARGER than it was when we launched back in 2020. We want to die with 0 but can’t manage to spend enough to get there. Oh, well, here’s to 2025!

  20. As always a great video. It really covered all of the different styles of travel accurately. We love museums and the historical sites, that actually is our preferred choice of places to visit 😀.

  21. Thanks for this info. My only request for you both is to reconsider your T-shirt and shorts uniform. Wear it as underwear as that is how it looks. You know better than anyone how we suffer a reputation as "Ugly Americans" by our attire, everywhere you go in Europe. I travel the Rick Steve's method out of a backpack too but still wear a collared long sleeve shirt and dark leather walking shoes with slacks, everywhere, to fit in better.
Please help us change this reputation by dressing better, it shows respect for their culture and ours.

  22. Thanks! Your videos are so helpful for those planning ahead for retirement. We are enjoying the video series as we dream of the go go years of full-time travel!

  23. It’s still fun and informative waiting your vids. I tend to dig a bit deeper to get the picture. So three years 100 countries. By simple math that’s 10 days in a country. How many months a year or countries have you stayed 1 month or more?
Now at 67 I’m preferring staying a 2 weeks to a moth in a property. I feel I live more of the culture, which is my goal in a bigger city, and venturing out from there. Also your 3k a month is based on 2 people. I’m a solo traveler. Of course it’s a cheaper lodging cost for 2 people. 😀
    Thoughts?

  24. Very informative. I'm been following lots of different travellers and they all seem to be more focused on the budget side. This is great info on what it will really cost if you want to travel and do excursions, experiences, travel to high-cost countries, etc. Your method of travel fits more with what I plan to do in retirement and sets my expectations. Spot on topic.

  25. Great video! So I have a question: if we could travel 3-6 months/ year to somewhere warm during the winter; that is our dream. Where would you suggest, and keep costs down? Hugs from Idaho ❤

  26. Our target is semi comfortable backpacking with occasional treats. We have been pleasantly surprised with what we get for our money. We always aim for less than $50 AUD a night for accommodation, bus or train transport (unless it's just ridiculously long), and local restaurants. We walk a lot, and only do excursions that really excited us. We have a drink or two….too often 😂 We are averaging about $5000 AUD a month but that is somewhat inaccurate due to some tours booked in advance. Europe will be different but we are looking at buying a basic campervan and camping around Europe, UK and North Africa (maybe more). The bottom line is that we can afford this fantastic lifestyle as long as we are careful and aware of costs. Your channel has been a great resource and the Facebook community is simply wonderful, thanks.
