The Ghostly Abandoned Mausoleum – And Its Unusual Story
Balkan Detours: Mausoleum Csávossy (Season 02, Episode 01)
After our car broke down on our first road trip to Albania, we embarked on a second attempt, determined to uncover the beauty of the Balkans. We paused in Romania to explore hidden gems along the way before continuing our journey. In this premiere episode of Balkan Detours Season 2, we step into a crumbling world of forgotten grandeur: the remains of the Csávossy Mausoleum. Journey with us deep into the Romanian countryside, where history and unexpected architectural wonders await! Together, we’ll discover a remarkable effort to revive one of the region’s most significant abandoned churches – a place too important to let it be erased by time. #urbex #abandonedplaces #bwturbex

Nice video, thank you for enlightening us on this project. I hope they can save the building for future generations.
Beautifully done yet again, the only channel i watch in full i love the documentary style videos.. keep up the good work cant wait to see Italy season 5
Wow, these Romanian students are an absolute force—so eloquent, especially in a foreign language. Nothing like how I was at uni 😂 Seriously impressed by them and the incredible work they’re doing!
Do they know when too stop repairing, or are the coming back in 10 too 15 years when it goes bad again, but they are doing good work, interesting video again, and the best wishes with your transport vehicles lol.
Cooles Shirt am Anfang! Wo gibt's das? 😀
It's nice to see young people who want to save history ❤. Thank you for making these videos 🙏
Ein ganz toller Film! Danke für die schönen Einblicke. Gruß Roland
You bring us the most interesting stories. I am so proud of those young people trying to save the building and not let it crumble away any more than it is already. What that young woman said is so true, just use the building, you don’t have to build another one, just use the one that is already there. We seem to be a throw away world now which is very unfortunate. Be safe, I look forward to the next one. Watching from Ontario Canada
That car with the tent on top is so badass
buy for them bandsaw can help alot
You didn't go much into the Csávossy family's hi/story. I could immediately see that their name isn't a Roumanian one. I'm supposing they are of Hungarian noble stock? And they were exiled. Sent packing. Interesting…
Guys the local catholic community did not fade, they were deported as they were of german or hungarian catholics to the soviet gulag or the Baragan. In 2012, the University of Timisoara estimated the renovation costs to 300.000€, for which the remaining Germany based catholic diaspora collected 30.000€ for help. The funds mysteriously disapeared in Timisoara. Welcome to Romania! PS: the mausoleum is a copy of the Bazilika of Esztergom, Hungary. The story of this building is the story of so much of our cultural heritage as Hungarians and Germans across Transylvania and Banat. The cemeteries tell our story till they exist as many 2-300 year old cemeteries/ crypts across the two region have been wiped out by the nationalist communist regime of Ceausescu. These students represent slight hope and change in mentality after the tulburous 100 years. Kudos to them.
It is so inportant to tske care about our history. Thankyou to this beutiful episod🎉
Your production on all your videos is honestly so incredible, I can really tell all the time and effort you guys put into your videos. Keep it up!!! :))
🎉🎉🎉
This is beautiful to see young architectural students working on that amazing structure…first thing it definitely needs is to be stabilised especially the dome and the foundations to stop any collapse from happening particularly as there is suddenly a lot of stress on the building but 💯 they'll know what there doing more than me..I would love to go there and help for a few days with anything thats needed certainly a grant from the E.U is needed on such a project and hopefully they'll get all of the financial help that is needed❤️👌🏴..I watched the video to the end and of course learned that they are stabilizing the structure which is a fantastic start hopefully the structure gets the funding that is needed to restore back to its former glory…
8:36 – "when a group of teenagers broke into the crypt and used the remains to play football." Sorry, what?! 😳😳💀
Kann es sein dass das opening diesesmal mit ChatGPT geschrieben ist? Falls ja fühl ich nicht.
Romania …
romanian state … 💩💩💩
3:43 I stop watching because i find it stupid..
She’s funny AF!
It going to take a very long long time and money to finish this task. I dont know that this ambitious crew will be working on it that many years. I dont know if it will ever be finishe but I hope so.
what a great group of young people!

A few days ago I found your YouTube channel, what a great treasure I have discovered.
I want to thank you for your content, the camera angles, the narration.
It's art!
Greetings from Venezuela, Caracas, a few thousand kilometers from those great places you have filmed.
THIS SHOULD BE ON TV!!! Or maybe a streaming deal for this level of quality
I've been there in 2021. Glad it's having some life brought back
The Lada Niva, built in the U.S.S.R. never was particularly popular in Romania, not even during communist times…!!! As Romania had it's own indigenous fabricated ARO off-road vehicle… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARO_(company)
which obviously was of way higher quality compared to the Lada Niva…!!! It doesn't mean that the Niva was never imported to Romania, it's just more than obvious that the ARO was more than a worthy competitor(much more expensive too, compared to the Lada Niva)… which basically sums down to, not relying too much to find easily spare parts for the Niva in Romania itself, nor old mechanics that are that familiar with it, as the Niva was rather obscure and not that popular really! Have only seen extremely few in Romania so far and mostly owned as heirloom vehicle only by connoisseurs… might be more often encountered and better known in the Rep. of Moldova though, as the country was part of the U.S.S.R!
However this may very well change in countries like Bubulgaria and Serbia or North Macedonia or Albania(though in this case I kind of doubt it), Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia etc. as those countries lacked their own indigenous off-road vehicle production, so they had to import the Lada Niva from the U.S.S.R. for civilian off-road purposes…
If you're looking for a cheap and handy vehicle and operable in the Balkans I'd definitely go for Dacia Duster first edition model!!! It's relatively cheap to buy, good off-road capabilities(definitely much better than the Lada Niva), cheap to operate and it's bound to find spare parts very easily, beginning with Hungary and throughout the entire Balkans, including Turkey…!!!
Excellent opening, inviting to explore the whole episode.
Very useful hands-on way to learn of traditional building techniques, in re-constructing and deconstructing this old structure. Much more than you could ever get in studying theory.
But the enthusiastic team face some major challenges, particularly the securing and restoration of the roof and domes. Keeping water out is a prime objective of preserving any building, new or old.
Is it known how this project is being funded?
Great videography, drone work, editing and narration incorporating well researched information about the content.
Built a tent on the car roof.. That's impresive. 😍
Bros this was awesome, seeing this just made my day. It's sad, I drive by this Mausoleum everyday and there is still no major steps taken to renovate it properly. Alles Gute und Liebe Gruesse aus Cenei, weiter so Jungs!!!
I lowkey have a crush on Till
I’m so happy to have seen the full story of this old church. You’ve featured it on calendars and we’ve seen the images. Now I know all about it! Gorgeous site. I love the work the students are doing to stabilize the structure and arrest further decay. It’s just gorgeous, even in its stripped down state. Thanks for another great video guys, start of an awesome series, I can tell!
That roof is the biggest problem i'd say, the rest is less complicated
11:38 I love this sequence with the musique, really great work
unfortunately when I was there in august 2023 the construction/rehabilitation ahave been stopped…I wish that this will restart again
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
