Kotor, Montenegro Walking Tour ☀️ (4K Ultra HD) – With Captions
This time, our walking tour takes us to Kotor, Montenegro, a city located in one of the most beautiful bays in the world. For centuries, it has been known as a city of merchants and renowned sailors. A port city situated in the southwestern part of Montenegro, Kotor lies right on the Bay of Kotor, at the end of the Gulf of Kotor, along the Adriatic Sea coastline. The city is surrounded on three sides by mountain ranges, with the highest peak, Stirovnik (1,749 meters above sea level), located in Lovćen National Park. Despite its ancient history, Kotor is a small town, with only 1,360 permanent residents as of 2023.
Its history dates back to time immemorial, and Kotor’s Old Town is the best-preserved medieval urban ensemble, typical of cities built in the 12th and 14th centuries. Its medieval architecture and numerous cultural heritage landmarks have earned Kotor a place on UNESCO’s World Natural and Cultural Heritage list. The city’s buildings are scattered throughout, intertwined with streets and squares. Kotor is also one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Southeastern Europe. The Old Town is surrounded by medieval city walls that connect to the Fortress of Saint John (Tvrdjava Sv. Ivan) on Lonely Hill at an elevation of 260 meters above sea level. The walls stretch for 4.5 kilometers, reaching a height of 20 meters and a width of 15 meters.
Annual carnivals and festivals add to the charm of this gem of Montenegro’s coastline. It is a destination that should definitely be visited.
The walking tour begins at the northern gate of the city and the bridge over the Skurda River. We will then explore the defensive walls, descending near the southern part of the city. Along the way, we will see landmarks such as The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, Pjaca Svetog Tripuna, The Grgurina Palace, Church of Saint Luke, and The Clock Tower. We’ll also lose ourselves in the narrow streets of the city before concluding our tour at the northern Gurdić Gate.
