The Side Of LAOS You WON’T See On TV!!

The Side Of LAOS You WON’T See On TV!! In this Vientiane Laos travel vlog I explore another side of Laos you don’t usually see. Usually people show the poverty of Laos, which is definitely there, as many Laotian people live under the poverty line. But there is also a rich and wealthy side, that few get to enjoy. In this video I explore the wealthy side of Laos you won’t see.

  1. Lao people own some of those fancy houses. In fact, Laos has one of the highest home ownership rates in the world, with almost 96% of the population owning their own home.

  2. I was here before Covid, nice place, easy going people, nobody bothers you. Even the army guards at the military museum was friendly. Unfortunately it was closed on that day. No massive traffic on the road. I was there on summer, the sun was burning, the sky was clear. The air is clean. Would recommend winter going there. December, January. The owner of the shop beside our hotel was a wonderful lady, understands English, cooked for us, as there was one guy who was a vegetarian, we will just suggest what we want to eat for the day and she will prepare for us. As for the tour, she will write down the list in Lao language and call this bigger tuk tuk, the driver knows where we want go for the day. It only cost about USD 30 for the 6 hours ride for 6 of us. We just stop where ever we want on the way, see or grab something to eat along the way. The airport is also in the city itself. From our hotel roof top restaurant we can see the Soviet MI 8 helicopters flying around the airport. Either landing or taking off. The airport was new then, hardly any flight at anytime, very empty. Met this Tamil Muslim guy owning a Biryani and Roti Canai shop. He has been staying there before the communist era, had a long chat with him, nothing cautious as there was no secret police spying on us, no KGB or North Korean agents. Looks like a free country with a free economy. I will go there again one day, I am not sure weather AirAsia flies there anymore since the pandemic.

  3. Laos is a corrupted governments, money can buy anything. Chinese will own many things in Laos. There's video came out last year with some Chinese paid some young (under aged) Laos girl and raped them. The Laos governments arrested this group of Chinese men but looks like nothing was done because these Chinese can buy their way out of any charge and prison time.

  4. They're building and building for show and to attract rich foreigners $$$.

Nation average annual earnings is less than $5,000!!!!! Let's say even $10,000!

They (Chinese) are building high rise hotels and condo/apartment buildings in "Beung That Luang." This is to attract foreigners and Lao expats. Some buildings are done but they're selling starting at $80,000. Heck 1-bedroom condo stars at $800 month. while the average monthly salary is less than $150! Police officers and teachers are paid less than $150 month!

Vast majority of Lao cannot afford that! No new roads, infrastructure or jobs…….. so will foreign investors come live or buy those condos? remains to be seen!

  5. I saw a YT video, last year, that because of heavy Chinese investment in Lao, there's a newly built toll expressway that would connect Vientiane with the northern Lao city of Luang Prabang; the first of its kind in the country's history. The last time I visited the country, was about 10 years ago, &, I drove in from Thailand. As for Laotian culture, it's prevalent in the northeast region of Thailand, called, "Isaan".

  6. Bro, now watch what you eat in Laos, coffee ok, but look for a Muslim owned and run food shop, very few but the rest do not understand halal, ingredients in the breads used are from pig extracts… Now make a video on the few halal shops there..

  7. I have been wondering about their house myself, or the expensive car. Where do they get the money from to buy cars etc. $46000 us. for the car to me that's unaffordable for average income in USA.

  8. Myer you will get around a lot easier sometimes if you would grt a motorbike, you will be able to experience much kore different places within one day and even within one week. Most definitely when you are in Thailand and the Philippines a motorbike is a must and the areas you mainly be in you won't have to worry about heavy traffic either.Great video by the way i always enjoy these indengenous journeys😅.
