Cologne Carnival 2025 – Sunny spring walk through the city – 4K Walking Tour – Kölner Karneval
Welcome to my first video! Recorded on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at a pleasant 12 degrees. The street carnival started the previous Thursday (“Weiberfastnacht”) in my hometown of Cologne, Germany. For six days, the city is a funny chaos. I took a little walking tour through Cologne with my new camera (DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo). From the cathedral, to the station forecourt over the Hohenzollern Bridge in the best sunshine.
Here’s some more information about carnival in Cologne:
Traditionally, the “fifth season” (carnival season) is declared open at 11:11 am on the 11th of the 11th month (November). The celebration of Carnival is then temporarily suspended during the Advent and Christmas period, and picks up again after New Years Day. The time of celebrating in the streets is officially declared open at Cologne’s downtown square “Alter Markt” on the Thursday before the beginning of Lent. Street carnival, a celebration of six days, takes place between Fat Thursday (Weiberfastnacht) and Ash Wednesday (Aschermittwoch). The highlight of carnival is Rose Monday (Rosenmontag) with a big parade going through the city centre. There are also smaller parades on the other carnival days. All through these days, Cologne folks go out masqueraded. The typical greeting during the festival is “Kölle Alaaf!”, which means something like Cologne above everything else. 🙂
I’d be happy about likes and subscriptions! More videos will follow soon from Cologne and other cities.
Kölle Allaaf!
Greetings from Cologne,
Simon
