Things in Freising
*Freising* is one of Bavaria’s oldest towns, located about 30 km north of Munich. It sits along the Isar River and is best known for its historic old town, the impressive Freising Cathedral on the Domberg (Cathedral Hill), and its strong brewing tradition. Freising is home to the Weihenstephan Brewery, the world’s oldest continuously operating brewery, founded in 1040. The city has a rich history tied to the Catholic Church, serving as a major bishopric long before Munich was established. Today, Freising combines medieval charm with its role as a university town, hosting the Technical University of Munich’s Weihenstephan campus, focused on agriculture, brewing, and life sciences. It is also the closest city to Munich Airport.
