Postal code: 18435
Population: 59,000
The old Hanseatic city of Stralsund is located on the Baltic coast in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, directly on the Strelasund. It is the district capital of the Vorpommern-Rügen district and a UNESCO World Heritage city.
Stralsund was a founding member of the HANSE, the merchants’ association from the Middle Ages.
Stralsund was granted city rights around 1230, making it the oldest city in Pomerania.
The city became prosperous through trade – which is reflected in the impressive buildings in the old town. In 2002, Stralsund became a UNESCO World Heritage city together with the Hanseatic city of Wismar.
The video shows the city’s sights.
We start with St. Mary’s Church – Marienstrasse 16 – an impressive late Gothic building – here you can also park very well and explore the city.
Stralsund is a very beautiful example of brick Gothic in the north of Germany.
The narrow medieval streets and busy market squares, brick Gothic and colorful gables are typical of Stralsund.
In the harbor you can still find old warehouses from past centuries and a beautiful sailing ship – the Gorch Fock.
The Ozeaneum, a natural history museum, is located right by the harbor and shows the impressive world of marine animals.

Stralsund is located directly on the strait to the island of Rügen and is called the GATE TO RÜGEN. The Rügen Bridge over the Strealasund begins here.
