Lost in East Timor: Overlanding Through the rainy season

We are going off-road in East Timor! Traveling with us around the planet, our partner NORD VPN. You get 4 months extra on a two years plan with the code NMEXP on the following link: https://nordvpn.com/nmexp

Welcome to East Timor, one of Southeast Asia’s least explored destinations! 🇹🇱🌿 Our overland adventure takes us deep into the heart of this remote island nation during the rainy season, and things do not go as planned…

🚙 The Plan: Drive from the northern coastline to Jaco Island for diving, then cross the south coast to summit **Mount Ramelau**, the highest peak in the country.

🌊 The Reality: Crocodile-infested waters, washed-out roads, unexpected detours, and flash floods that push us and our 4×4 to the limit.

East Timor is wild, rugged, and unpredictable—especially in the wet season. This is real overlanding, where plans fall apart, nature takes over, and every mile is a challenge.

Please be aware that Timorese are religious and are very much connected to their land and culture of the ancestors. So be observant of the local rituals. Regardless our people are very welcoming and caring. Take care and enjoy your journey guys 😊
