Seriously, what IS this place? Palaiokastritsa, Corfu, Greece 🇬🇷 #greecetravelguide #travel

Seriously, what IS this place?

“Palaiokastrísta” means “old little castle” in Greek. And today you’ll discover the source of that tongue-twisting phrase.

The magnificent ruins of Angelokastro, “Castle of the Angel.”

The not-so-small citadel protected northwestern Corfu throughout the Byzantine and Venetian empires.

Sightlines across the Adriatic and state-of-the-art engineering made Angelokastro a mighty fortress for 1,300 years.

Until the 18th century, that is. When it became outdated. Abandoned. And mostly forgotten.

But not by you. Who wanders off the beaten path. And seeks the hidden gems.
