We spent a day at Neuschwanstein Caste and a day at Lake Eibsee. Both were eventful for very different reasons.
Do not miss the stunning balcony at Neuschwanstein castle. Be sure to take a picture of those on the bridge taking a picture of you!! If you do the tour, be aware you will climb a lot of steps, so not really suitable if you have walking difficulties. If you are driving from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, make sure you check your route prior to setting off. The shortest route will take you via Austria, which we found out too late! Hello Mr Border guard, please let us back into Germany in a car that is not insured to travel to Austria, without passports and no driving license on us!
My eyes were constantly amazed with the views in Bavaria…and Lake Eibsee delivered. This stunning lake, which was half frozen when we were there was spectacularly beautiful. There are hidden dangers though. Please be very careful when walking on the ice. A group of tourist fell through the ice on the day we visited. A rescue mission took place involving helicopters, and locals. I’ve not added footage of what we caught, but please….be careful. It was terrifying to watch, and I’m sure horrific for all involved.
