The Pamir Highway | A Test of Strength and Will #40

Bike touring at the breathtaking altitude of 4655 meters above sea level on the legendary Pamir Highway, the second highest international road of the world. Cycling the highest section is extremely challenging, and makes us question everything.

420km | 3330m total elevation gain | Murghab – Ak-Baital – Karakul – Sary-Tash – Osh

  1. Apart from the sense of achievement, there must be reasons why you accept to suffer so much. You should ask yourselves what those reasons are. Of course, it's personal, no need to explain here 🙂

  2. All your videos have been stunning. But the grit and determination you showed here was truly amazing. You have to be very proud of yourselves and never forget this. Love you you both and when I say you have made my top 20 list of most wonderful and amazing people in the world….. I mean it. Stay safe and I look forward to next time❤

  3. I met a guy in Alichur who said "you cyclists are true heroes". That was onestly too much for me, but I truly think you deserve it.
Well done, riding with you was an honour 😉👏👏👏
ps : what is the music that starts are appro. 26' ?

  4. Many thanks for a compelling video; you are courageous and inspiring. Wonderful production values, great video shots and a very real sense of what it's like to be in the saddle for hours on end. Keep it up!

  5. Another amazing video, as always! I'm constantly surprised of your physical and mental endurance. You truly inspire and empower others with your strength. 💚

  6. Wonderful video, and looks like it was a pretty extreme route ? Maybe one day I'll try it. What's the future route’s for you and Arev ? I'm starting the Baja divide at Easter, I'm a bike tourer , not a bikepacker, but we'll see how it goes. I'll be sure to draw inspiration from the memories of you Pamir trip, when things start getting to tough for an old man like me. Take care.

    Neil.

  7. Hi again, I forgot to ask you about your tyres . It's unbelievable that combined you've only had 5 punctures, after 1000's of km's. So please offer up some info. Are you using tubes ? Or tubeless?

    Neil.

  8. Thanks Mathias, I also think that the tubeless setup isn’t perfect for long term touring. I guess I just needed a more experienced rider to confirm that. Thanks.
    Neil.

  9. Amazing views and video quality!!! Your emotions and feelings resonate, as we are now also traveling by bicycle in the Andes, which is quite harsh, as it is winter here and the rainy season continues! Good luck, we are waiting for the next video!

  10. 😂I hereby officially declare that Mathias is the world's biggest crybaby of all cyclists.😂
You are the most lucky to get tablets on the way. Without tablets it could be horrible at 4700 meters.
You did it. You overcame a big physical challenge. But no well-being for the mind. And as I've written all along this road – it's really not worth it. Apart from the bald mountains and the mostly bad road – there's nothing to watch. No trees, no flora, almost no culture, or locals, no interaction with the locals, and very rare settlements if any.
N/B The video editing job was immaculate… You became like pro-editors. You gained great skills and experience.

  11. I was just wondering "what is Sun up to?" and there you are, climbing mountains and counting horses. All of this is unbelievably cool! It was very nice to chill here, looking at the wonderful scenery, good music and the vibing narration, while you folks were testing your mettle and spitting your lungs out over 4000km above! That is entertaining 😀
    Best, Dan

  12. Amazing as always. The Pamir Highway is crazy challenging and yet you 2 somehow push through. The quality of video is excellent. Thank you for sharing.

  13. Congratulations for overcoming the trials and bringing us some beautiful footage! But looking forward to an installment where you're both cycling happily and Mathias has regained his sense of humour.

And while there'd be no contest for my affections compared with a fine vintage UAZ, the new-found density of horses is enticing.
