Beilstein an der Mosel – one of the most beautiful places on the Moselle, also called the Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle. Worth seeing in this romantic Moselle town are the picturesque market with the former tithe house and the former parish church of St. Christopher, the monastery stairs that lead to the Carmelite monastery with the Black Madonna, the showpiece of the baroque monastery church, the knights’ hall and the many cozy half-timbered houses, alleys and corners. Beilstein is home to the ruins of Metternich Castle, which resembled a fairytale palace with its towers and turrets.
The large castle terrace alone, with its view of the Moselle Valley, is worth a visit. During the summer months of July and August, Metternich Castle opens its doors for a culinary highlight under the open sky. The Fürst-Metternich-Stube serves exquisite Moselle wines.
