Inside Singapore’s MOST Underrated Retro Hawker Centre

I found a unique hawker centre in Singapore that is extremely retro with an interesting L-shape. Havelock Road Cooked Food Centre has around 30 stalls and some hawkers are really popular like the char kway teow and laksa stall. Let’s eat!

  1. You should visit the hawker centre at Block 128 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh before they close down for renovations early June.

Come for breakfast or lunch, after 2pm the hawker centre is empty.

  2. One cai fan spot charged me same price for only two pieces chicken while others got four pieces in Kim San Leng food centre. Really disappointing.

  3. hey, do you have a list / compilation of all the great food you've eaten around the country?
Im singaporean, but i dont travel as much as you do / visit all these areas.
Would you compile a list of maybe which hawker stalls you think are worth a visit if in the area?

  4. why this turtle soup is different from the rest is…. because you can actually taste the turtle's flavor, compared to others. and, they are all related to each other by blood.

  5. If you stand at Great World City Mall and look toward Zion Road Hawker Centre, you would see a lone HDB block to the left of the hawker centre. There used to be a small hawker centre next to it (86 Zion Road) which has been demolished. This was the Covent Garden Hawker Centre and it was named after the Covent Garden in London.

When it was demolished, some of the stalls moved to Havelock Road Hawker Centre. I didn’t have too many fond memories of Covent Garden Hawker Centre. I only went once or twice but remember it being very warm. Then again, most places in Singapore are just too warm for me 🙂

  6. You went for 2 of my fave dishes there! I always have to debate over getting the ckt which I grew up eating or the laksa which is one of my fave sg dishes. Hope you enjoyed the food there. The fried fish stall at the end of one end is also popular too. I recommend the Tom yom soup with fried fish

  7. Maybe one day do a review at jalan batu hawker centre popular with ECP bikers with morning kway chap, wan ton mee and chicken rice❤

  8. Back in 1970s, at Somapah Road off Upper Changi Rd, there was a wet market serving the village there with a stall selling fresh turtle meat. My mum use to buy it and make braise turtle meat (lor ku bah) which tasted heavenly & the meat is very lean.
