  1. Hello 👋🏼 This is video is based on my 4 week stay in tourist areas of Laos and Thailand. It is not intended to compare long term stays, cultures or imply that any one country is better. Just some observations from my trip, which could be different to yours. Also, I am pronouncing Lao without the ‘s’ because that is how the locals refer to their country. Thanks guys 👍🏼

  2. Laotians speak French and some Thai and think they are smarter that Thais. Hehe. At least when I was in Vientiane, Laos. Beautiful ppl and more reserved for sure!

  3. Bit boring Laos if things like awesome shopping centres is your thing. Also a communist country Laos. Beautiful place for a short holiday but not to live there. Each to their own ❤❤

  4. Thanks for letting me know that "Laos" is pronounced as just "Lao".. Yes its driving is on the right (American System) unlike Thailand.Malaysia, Singapore

  5. If you bought anything in Lao, you will quickly realize it costs more than Thailand. That’s because everything is imported from Thailand and resold at a higher price.

  6. Do you think most people in Laos would choose to live the way they do if they had more opportunities? Millions of Lao citizens cross the border to work in Thailand, and in fact, there are more ethnic Lao people living in Thailand with Thai citizenship—especially in the northeastern region—than in Laos itself. Some even consider the Lao population in northeastern Thailand to be more "culturally pure," while many in modern Laos have mixed Vietnamese heritage….

Historically, Laos might not have become a separate country if it weren't for French colonialism. France helped Laos gain protection from the Siamese (Thai) Empire. Later, during World War II, Thailand temporarily regained some of that territory by joining the Axis powers. However, to be admitted to the United Nations after the war, Thailand had to return the land it had gained. Afterward, Laos turned to the Soviet Union for support, which ultimately led to its communist regime.

Thailand, on the other hand, formed as a unified nation-state earlier than most countries in the region, consolidating various kingdoms to resist colonization. Many neighboring countries only began forming modern national identities after Western powers withdrew—less than a century ago in some cases. So Thailand isnt just Central Thai people.

Thailand is more than just Bangkok and beach resorts or Chiangmai. There are many under developed province that look similar to Laos main tourist attraction city.

If you're comparing development, take a look at modern cities in Laos—many of which have been heavily developed with Chinese investment—and compare them to cities across Thailand dont just cherry picking.

  7. Agree with everything except cost. In my experience most things cost more in Lao than in Thailand. A bowl of noodles that would cost 40 or 50 baht ($1.20-$1.50) in Thailand tends to be about 60 baht ($1.80) in Lao. Equivalent hotel rooms will cost $45 in Lao and $30 in Thailand. A normal massage in Lao costs around 20 percent more in Lao. There are exceptions of course but in my many visits to Lao over the last five or more years that's been my experience. Still I love traveling in Lao. There's less to spend your money on overall in Lao, so at least there's that.

  8. Sorry don't agree Laos people are the same as Thai. Laos has a curfew so that's why by 11.30pm live music stops but you can still find night clubs that are open until 2am. Thailand didn't have French control like Laos has and trust me 99% of Laos people don't care to be reminded about the French or the old buildings. The only thing you got correct is that they drive on the opposite side of the road.
