Heligoland: The forgotten island Britain lost to Germany
Helgoland is the only land Britain ever lost to Germany. But why?

It’s a tiny island in the north sea that’s still home to about 1000 Germans today, but what’s it like to live on Germany’s most remote island?
Why did Britain take Heligoland from Denmark in the first place anyway, and why did it mean certain doom for Napoleon?
How did Germany win it from Britain, in the Heligoland-Zanzibar treaty? And what role did Heligoland play during the wars?
And what was Operation Big Bang? Why did the British return to launch the biggest explosion of all time on Heligoland, one of their former territories?

Didn’t know helgoland lacked pollen. I wanna go now.
Like many places after the war the Germans did a fabulous job of rebuilding their homes.
What a great video! Heligoland has been on my German bucket list for too long. I need to go there.
In WW1 there was a song called we're off to go to Heligoland which was also popular in WW2 when D Day came around
Britain never lost it to Germany it exchanged it for Zansibar in a deal.
Love this type of stuff. Great video.
nice, finally somewhere has banned bicycles
How do you think you’ve got new Amsterdam? You traded the island of Rum in the East Indies for what was to become New York.
Klaus Störtebecker ist unser Herr
Von Godeke Michels beraten!
Wir jagen sturmschnell über das Meer
Des fliegenden Holländers Paten
Gevatter ist der Klabautermann
Schiffvolk pack an!
Leben ist Tand
Wir sind die Hölle von Helgoland
Blutrot knallt unsre Flagge am Mast
Am Boden da huschen die Ratten
Ein Totengerippe ist unser Gast
Im Segel wehn grausige Schatten
Im Kielwasser schwimmt das Meerweib nach
Schiffsvolk so lach!
Schiffsvolk komm her!
Leben ist Tand
So lebt die Hölle von Helgoland
Und macht unser Kahn seine letzte Fahrt
Laßt lachend, als Sarg ihn versinken
Wir sterben nach wilder Seeräuberart
Heut‘ morden und morgen ertrinken
Bei grünen Algen und weißem Sand
Schiffsvolk da Strand!
Leben ist Tand!
So stirbt die Hölle von Helgoland
I am tired of someone like this guy saying people don’t know about it. It is always being talked. Click bait title. Never lost it.
It could do with a few trees to take the bleakness away. How about a nice little beech wood? or maybe not!
Why no bicycle 🤷🏻♂️
I have been there when I was 4

Helgoland never was a "british" area, it was only occupied from thge English from time to tome. The population living there always was German.
Great video !
Trump should buy Heligoland
Everyone cool with Britain taking and holding Heligoland but when Russia took back Russian land in 2014 everybody calls them out
