Dachau Concentration Camp, Germany.

Opened in 1933, Dachau has the distinction of being the first purpose built and longest running concentration camp. Originally intended for political prisoners, it expanded over the years to hold an estimated more than 200,000 people from over 40 different nations.

Forced labor, brutal and inhumane treatment, and murder were everyday life for those imprisoned here. An estimation of at least 41,000 died from illness, starvation, exhaustion, torture, or direct execution.

It is nearly silent at Dachau. There is no music, sound, or loud talking. Visitors walk slowly, observe quietly, and speak softly to one another.

Thanks for watching.
