Alsace Region, France Four day weekend! (Strasbourg, Colmar, Riquewihr, Ribeauville, Kayserburg)
[Music] Bonjour. Today I’m taking you to the Alsas region of France where we will start our video series of the best 4-day weekend trips from Stoutgart. The Alsas region is a really easy drive from Stoutgart and is a great area to take out of town guests. Fun fact, it’s also the inspiration for Beauty and the Beast. We’ve been to the area three times now and we’ve enjoyed every visit. So, let’s start this video in Straburg, which is only a 2-hour drive from Stukeart and has some really beautiful things to see. While in Strawburg, we made sure to see the main attractions like the old town in Petite, France, the big cathedral, and we stopped by one of the many playgrounds. Strawburg can also be a good day or weekend trip and an easy place to get to by train. After Strawburg, we ventured south to the small medieval towns near Kmar. We were here in February and then again in the very end of March. And I have to say that springtime in this region is just magical. The trees and flowers were blooming. Everything was super green. And best of all, there were no crowds. The only bummer is that we were here a few days too early for the bike rental shops to open up. And I would have loved biking through the vineyards between the villages. During our visit, we stopped in Kmar, Rickir, Quaserberg, Ryovville, and a few others in between. These villages are dotted along the base of the mountains and nestled amongst the vineyards. There are castles at almost every turn and in the springtime you can find stors flying and nesting all around the area. Kmar is by far the biggest of these medieval towns, but that also means there is a lot more to do as far as touristy things. With mom, we opted to take the little train around the town and learn about the history of the region. Unfortunately, mom was hunched over the whole ride and was coming down with a really nasty case of influenza A, but we won’t focus on that part. These towns are just so adorable, and it’s amazing to think just how old some of these buildings and streets are, and what life must have been like back in the time of Knights and [Music] Castles. Beyond exploring the towns and trying to spot the nesting storks, we also played on some really awesome playgrounds and ate all the delicious French food you could dream of. In route back to Stoutgart, we stopped in the towns of Fryberg and Triberg, Germany. Fryberg is a cute place to explore and has a nice daily open air market and lots of cute vintage clothing shops. Triberg is famous for being the home of the German cuckoo clocks. It was pretty touristy, but the drive to get there was a beautiful meandering drive through the Black Forest and that made the extra driving worth it. We loved this little 4-day excursion and it was an easy one to do with kids. Next up, I’ll be making a video about our 4-day adventure to Appenel, Switzerland. [Music]
