Located in the heart of Britany, Ren is a vibrant city where tradition meets modernity. Ren is located in the northwestern part of France and serves as the capital of the Britany region. It’s about 350 km west of Paris and it’s easily accessible by high-speed train which takes just around 1.5 hours from the capital. The city lies at the confluence of two rivers, the Isisle and the Valain, giving it a unique natural charm. [Music] Ren has a rich and fascinating history. Originally founded by the Reduns, a Celtic tribe, the city was later integrated into the Roman Empire. You can still see remnants of Roman walls around the city center today. In the Middle Ages, Ren became an important center of trade and politics in the Duchy of Britany. It was officially united with France in the 16th century. One of the most significant events in Ren history was the Great Fire of 1720, which destroyed much of the medieval city. As a result, much of Ren was rebuilt in a classical style, which contrasts beautifully with its remaining half-timber houses. During World War II, Ren suffered bombings, but was quickly rebuilt after the war. Since then, it has grown into one of France’s most livable cities. [Music] [Music] Ren is a city that wears its history proudly. You’ll find medieval halftimbered houses in the old town, especially around the place Delicis. This area comes alive every Saturday with one of France’s largest food markets. Notable landmarks include the Parliament of Britany Lou Parliamenta Bratana, an elegant 17th century building. The Ren Cathedral, St. Pierre Cathedral, a neocclassical church with a long history. The Faber Gardens Lou Park Daber, a stunning 10 hectare park combining French and English garden styles. Modern architecture is also present such as less Champs Libres, a cultural center housing the library, the science museum and the Breton Museum. [Music] [Music] Ren is widely known for its vibrant cultural life. It’s a city of music, art, and festivals. One of the most famous events is the Trans Musicals, an international music festival held every December. This festival has been a launching pad for artists like Daft Punk and Nirvana. There’s also the Tom’s Delanoot, a street arts festival featuring performances across the city. For art lovers, the Muse de Bozarts offers an impressive collection from the Renaissance to modern times. In terms of performing arts, the Opera of Red and the National Theater of Britney present high-quality productions throughout the year. [Music] Ren is a student city. In fact, nearly one out of every four residents is a student. Is home to several prestigious institutions such as University of Ren 1 and 2 offering a wide range of disciplines. Ren is also a hub for technological innovation especially in telecommunications and digital media. It hosts the technopole ren at Atlanta which supports research and startups. Traditionally, it relied on agriculture and manufacturing, particularly with the Citron car plant, which still plays a major role in the city’s economy. Today, Ren is also a tech and digital innovation center. Companies in telecommunications, IT, and AI have a strong presence here. Several startups and international firms have chosen REN for its high quality of life and talented workforce. The service sector is also important, especially education, healthcare, and public administration. as Ren is the regional capital. As part of Britney, it’s famous for crepes and galletes. Thin pancakes made from wheat or buckwheat flour. Cider, a traditional Breton apple cider, often served with gallettes.
