I’m Hitchhiking from Portugal to Australia! [1st Episode]
This is the first of many episodes about the biggest adventure of my life so far: Hitchhiking from Portugal to Australia. For me, this started 1.5 months ago (in case you’re curious, I’m in Georgia right now), but for you it’s starting today!
I don’t know if I will be able to post one episode every week, cause it has been difficult to find the time to edit everything, but I will do my best to keep bringing you videos.
As you might be able to tell, this video making thing is veeeery new to me, so feedback is very much welcome!! (please).
Let me know what you think in the comments!
Also, if you’d like to follow on real time, I’m posting a few stories here and there on Instagram: @The_Sustainable_Backpacker

UPDATE about the Vlogs (more info on the post I just publisehd): right now I’m not being able to keep up with the weekly vlogs, so I will try to upload 1 vlog every 2 weeks.
Once I get more experience and manage to edit faster, I will start uploading weekly.
I hope you understand❣️
And thank you so much for the feedback so far, you’re amazing🫶🫶
Good luck girl I just subscribed to your channel !🎉
Be cautious in india because last year a foreigner was gang-raped and the police did not do much, she was from Female Spainish-brazilian, not only last year i think every year. don't put tent anywhere without asking anyone I mean nobody going to stop you but if you ask local it will be safe for you mostly, still India is dangerous for women, if someone harasses then directly contact the police and trying to record if possible ( mean if you feel danger) and post on twitter, and don't go at some wrong place without asking local ( you already know that), if someone trying to sell you and if you don't like just say "NO" don't explain anything just say "No". I am not trying to scare you but if you follow a little careful then nothing will happen to you.all i am saying that i feel very sad every yearwhen i heard something like this that traveler come to india and this kind of thing happened to them this is not good. And we welcome you in India It's a very beautiful and unique country in the world. you will gonna love it.
Very cool journey!
I think hitchhiking is very dangerous and scary
I'm 18 and planing to hitchhike from my homecountry of Germany to China next year. I plan on getting there in 2 months. Do you think its possible
OKO
You must be so insane doing this crazy life threatening and tiresome journey .
Be safe on your travels. You are very smart. Keep safe.
Nice video! I think this video was better edited than you think, I have watched many similar travelling videos lately and in my opinion you are doing very well for such a small channel. I'm sure your channel will grow A LOT during this trip if you are lucky with Youtube algorithm. Hopefully people don't mind two-week wait too much and don't forget this. Good luck, I'm very interested how this journey will continue!
I have a disability, would love to do this type of things, cant though….cant even get around portugal, so many barriers, specially mental barriers. anyways, good content, be safe ok? if you need beats to ya background songs, let me know, im a music producer =)
What an amazing journey you are taking on, looking forward to watching your vlogs. Wishing you well from England ❤
I have a friend with very similar views to that guy and drives me mad, you handled him very well ❤
From Bangladesh 🇧🇩😊
Descobri hoje o teu canal e vou seguir. Boas aventuras sem desventuras se possível. Abraço
I totally agree with the guy at 11:00. He makes more sense than anything I hear in the media.
This is gonna pick up quickly, your content is interesting, you cuts are good, not to long sequences of any particular story and you have an awesome vibe.
You are gonna have a great trip that you will remember all your live.
Wish you only the best on your travels and many great encounters. Your first ride hit the nail on the head, traveling is about finding yourself and i´m happy that you already figured out that it is the most fullfilling to beat your old self and get better and grow instead of always comparing yourself to others.
Good luck! Best from The Netherlands! subscribed.
GO GIRL! New follower here! I'm really curious how and why did you decided to do this 🙂
Loved your video, but hitchiking is very dangerous.

Boa viagem!
Amazing adventure. You will need to show customs you have enough money to live on if you go to Australia or they won't allow you entry. Free camping is only permitted in certain areas. Other areas you have to pay to camp.
Excellent, keep these coming!
Isto é das aventuras mais incríveis e inspiradoras que vi no YouTube e noutros canais. Não encontro as palavras para descrever o feito enorme que tens feito e estás a fazer. É um orgulho pertencer ao mesmo país que tu!
This sounds like an adventure of a lifetime!! Wishing you the very best, stranger! Please be safe! ❤
@TheSustainableBackpacker53 Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not saying to not do your trip, but you need to check a few things before getting too far from Europe incase you need to make a minor change to your plans or grab another visa.
1. You NEED to check if Australia will let you in with an eTA or standard tourist visa by boat. Generally those are only valid if entering by plane via an airport. If you need a visa you don't currently have (in order to arrive by boat) you'll have to go home to get the visa as countries only issue them from the consulate in your home country.
2. AVOID East Timor and Papua New Guinea (PNG) like the plague. They are very dangerous places where violence is common, laws mean little to locals.
3. Without a work visa Australia will prohibit you from any and all work. It doesn't matter if its online, you need a work visa unless you're an Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen. If you have a website that hosts a course that is pre-recorded, doesn't require you to interact with it, that should count as passive income from work you did back in Portugal and thus shouldn't be an issue.
4. You'll need somewhere between 4000 – 6000 Euros to afford a few weeks in Australia, especially since the whole 2020 thing pushed prices to the insane costs they currently are (cost of living has 6x'd since 2020). A burger (yeah, even a veggie burger) with chips and a drink is easily $35+ AUD if its actually good and not rubbish like McDonalds. Australia won't let you in unless you can prove you can support your stay and your return trip WITHOUT working unless you have a work visa. Yes "online work" and "helping out in return for food and board" is considered work under Australian law so keep that in mind when entering Australia.
5. Most countries won't let you apply for a visa to stay whilst in the country – you have to apply from your home country.
I hope you have a great and safe trip.
