Free South Korea Medical Care Keeps Me Here and OUT of America!

Korea health checkup system: Free exams for every resident.
Did you know that in South Korea, the government offers free medical checkups to nearly every resident—including expats? In this video, I break down how the Korean health certificate system works, what’s included in the exam, and why this level of preventive care is almost unheard of in countries like the United States.

Each year (or every two years depending on your age), the Korean government sends you a notice to get a full health check—completely covered by national insurance. We’re talking blood tests, vision screening, liver and kidney checks, body fat scans, blood pressure, and more—all in one visit. In many cases, it takes less than an hour.

In this video, I take you inside the experience, show you how to book an appointment, and compare it to what it would cost—and how long it would take—to get the same services in the U.S. healthcare system.

For expats living in Korea, this is one of the biggest hidden benefits of the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS). It’s efficient, preventative, and rooted in the idea that regular checkups save lives.

Whether you’re an ESL teacher, student, or long-term traveler, this system is one of the ways Korea truly takes care of its residents.

Watch to see how Korean healthcare redefines what affordable, proactive medicine can look like.

  1. Have you ever received a medical health check from your country's government, FOR FREE, without asking for it?

  2. Strictly speaking, it's 'Cheap' medical care though. That's why Government medical care funds goes crazy lol.

  3. Uhhhh, this is a very difficult and thorny topic for me, I'd better refrain… It's nice and makes you feel good when you receive a letter like that.

  4. Ahahah, are you sure? Do you want to be Pandora? Jokes aside, the topic is difficult for me because every day I see how the national health system is falling to pieces. A huge problem that in Italy, but in almost all of Europe we are having is the shortage of doctors and nurses and it will be a disaster. There is no generational change. Some important tests, free, they no longer do them because there are no technicians… and this is just a little evil that you, Francois / Pandora, have brought out… It's better that I stop, good night. :))

  6. something about your videos always makes me hungry maybe its because i think of korean bbq. went out and get some yesterday

  7. As far as Italy is concerned, the problem has been there for many years. It has gotten worse for 15 years. It is too complex and too broad a topic for me to address here. Many doctors go abroad, it is true, they earn more, but many young people no longer want to undertake difficult and long studies. In my small way, pharmacists are no longer available because they do not want to do shifts and work on Saturdays and some Sundays. I have always worked at Christmas or Easter if I had to and I have never allowed myself to say anything because it was my duty. What can European leaders do? In my opinion, the biggest mistake was to consider the health system as a hospital company, managed by politicians / managers who know nothing about medicine, rather than by doctors who know how to manage certain situations and, above all, the staff. European leaders live on another planet and do not have to wait for a medical visit like a common mortal. They should live 6 months, like a common citizen, it would be enough to make them understand how the world works.

  8. Nice. Mongolia used to be like that but after the democratic revolution in the past 40 years the 400 years of US bad things manifested in our system 😢. Otherwise we still have good health care system. It is over capacity so has a que. 😢 I am hoping and praying for better outcomes.
We are lucky that our doctors are good.
    Health is wealth.
