We Made our FIRST MISTAKE On Our USA Road Trip!

This week we continue our journey south through the USA and this country just keeps blowing us away. From volcanic craters to gaping canyons, waterfalls, salt lakes, unbelievable wildlife. It honestly feels like we’re driving across a different planet. So come with us as we chase the sun and maybe find just a little too much. Uh it was actually really hot last night because of the sun radiating off Key’s face. My little Irish skin man. So pathetic. Guys, we’ve had to pull over off the highway for a second because somebody’s lost the will to live. I’m hungry. Good morning, guys. This is the spot where we have been parked up for the last couple of days to get some editing done. We haven’t seen another soul. It’s literally in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by like mountains in the distance, and we’ve just been loving it here. But now it’s time to continue our journey south towards the sun. Has that got old yet? No, I enjoy it. It’s time to think. So, this is basically what our mornings look like right now. Literally like an hour egg ride. But I tell you what, my forearms, they’ve never been as pumped. Yeah, I have no regrets. No regrets. No regrets. I really, really love it and enjoy the process. So, one eternity later. Give it to me, guys. cuz we didn’t intend on hanging around here. The weather was bad yesterday, so we just thought we’d spend another day here, get some work done. But we really do need to move because our fridge is pretty empty. Our fridge is more than empty, guys. I’m going to be honest. I had a bit of a freak out yesterday when I realized we were still going to be here for another day. Like, Billy, we’re out of food. You know, I was getting a bit twitchy, wasn’t it? So, yeah, guys, we’re going to have to stock up later because it’s bare. It’s bare. And you know what Keyy’s like without food? Yeah. You ready to hit the road? Yeah. What are you laughing at? I don’t know. Yeah, I’m ready to hit the road cuz once we hit the road and then once we go explore, then I can go to shop and buy food. Need to know if this thing can handle the the unseen roads, eh? Oh, yeah. Well, we’re putting it through it pieces anyway, aren’t we? We definitely are. So, we’re in Idaho at the moment and we’re actually on our way to a place called Creators of the Moon. And this was recommended by quite a few of you guys in our comments. And believe it or not, this entire trip is basically planned around recommendations from you guys. So, please keep sending them down below. And if anything is on our route and not too far off, we’re going to give it a go. That looks so cool. That’s crazy how it just changed instantly. Wow. Look at that landscape. That’s Philly. Look at it. It’s absolutely gorgeous. Yeah, it’s cool with the snow. I’m so excited. Okay, guys. So, we have arrived and it turns out it is indeed still shut. But oi, we think that even though the loop drive, the 7mi scenic drive that you go around in all the different car parks, even though that’s all shut, I’m pretty sure we can still just go in for a bit of a walk. So, obviously, we’re not going to be able to get in as far as we want to. All the cool hikes are like quite deep in, but we’ll get in for a little bit of an explore. We’ll bring you guys along and we’ll get get some exercise. Let’s go see some rocks. I have to say, guys, I was a little bit skeptical at first. It’s like, what’s so big about some rocks? But when you’re here, it’s such a unique landscape. Yeah, it’s very cool. And it’s also really cool seeing it in the snow. Yeah. Cool. Wow. Here, feel this. That’s lava. Yeah. No, this is these are the black lava fields. That’s lava. These are all volcanic. Look at this landscape. What the heck? That is so cool. Why does the walk back always feel twice as long? Honestly, it feels like we’ve been walking for days. Key made us walk like 10 miles. I think like what? 5 miles. We walked five miles. Yeah, guys. I’m not going to lie though, my joints, man. I’m This has been way tougher than I expected. I’m going to be honest. It was a flat road. A paved road. Yeah. Feels good. Feels good to blow the the cobwebs off. Yeah. Thank the Lord. Guys, I’m so hungry. I’m so tired. I really, really, really, really wish I had a sandwich. My body, my legs. Believe it or not, it’s the same day. Also, Key wouldn’t shut up about food the whole way around. Yeah, I’m hungry, man. Fridge is too empty. But all of that is ending now cuz we’re going to the shop to get food. Yes, it’s the most exciting part of our week right now. Yes, I love food so much. You’ve got the sun. And also, it is a 2-hour drive to the shop. So, I think you can manage. It’s pretty far. You’ll be wasting away. Ellie, I’m ready for bed. Guys, you’ve only driven about 20 minutes. I am fatigued. We’re stopping for fuel. It’s nicer the farther south we go. So far, the fuel is getting so much cheaper. Yes. Up to a dollar cheaper here than it was in Washington. We’re driving over a canyon. Wow. That was not expecting that. And no one can see it. And you want to admit that what’s happened here. Um, so Keyy’s hungry, so we’re getting a pizza. Look at her just withering away. Where are you? I’m wasting away, guys. I was like all pumped to cook. Like on that hike, guys, I was like talking about Well, I was talking about sandwiches, but now I’m just like, we can we just get takeway? I’m just so fatigued. We definitely need to have like a little a little snack jar for you. Yes, we do. Look, last time I got takeaway, I had self-control and I waited until Philly got back when I had sushi back in Vancouver. I I don’t think I can do it this time. Just being honest. I don’t think I can do it. I I I need to eat. I probably could have got two pizzas. Look at this. Philly, I’m sorry. I don’t have it in me. Am I Guys, guys, guys, I’m sunburnt. Guys, should I wait? No, he won’t mind. Oh, so hungry. It’s tea time. Haven’t eaten since breakfast. And my breakfast was two measly wraps with a quarter of a block of tofu. Oh, I’m buy another pizza. Guys, we were free from getting another pizza. Well, you did. Do you want to see something cool? All right, here we are. Are you ready for the sickest view from a car park ever? Oh, okay. Let’s not fall off the edge. Philly. Wow. Look at this place. Wow. Wow. Will we walk down? Yep. Let’s go. Okay, let’s go. Wow, guys. That is That’s a cliff edge right there. And that’s a cool bridge. Like, how are we allowed this close to the edge of a cliff without a barrier? Well, people think that you’re not dumb enough to fall off it. Honestly, I feel like the UK has dumbed us down. Do you know what I mean? Because like I shouldn’t be allowed this close to a cliff. I’ve not been brought up in a country where I can be this close to cliffs. I know. Actually, maybe you should just come back. That’s enough for you. You have to go back there and appreciate from a distance. Am I less red? Nope. And if anything, you’re more red. A guys, what has she done? I know. Good news, Philly. I just checked out Overlander and there is BLM lands around here, which means free parkups, which means let’s go get groceries and let’s go sleep. Okay. What a cool spot, eh? Yeah. So, these are the pillars. And then six, for example, is just a park in six. This is just a free little campsite. We’ve got a fire pit. We have firewood. Key. Actually, we do have fair wood. Uh, we’ve got a picnic table. Guys, we have it all. We’re complete lightweights right now. I was going to say we’re such faders. I’m pretty sure you’ve got sunstroke. I’m very warm by the looks of your face. Oh, guys. Okay. Well, we’ll see you in the morning. I have no energy to like light a fire in that fire pit. I’d love to, but I have nothing to do. We have all these facilities, but we’re not going to use them. We’re going to get in bed. Good night. Love you. I was going to scream good morning, but there’s vans parked all around us. So, we’re going back inside. We’ve had a bit of a slow morning. The van is a complete bomb site. It kind of is, isn’t it? Yeah. I don’t know how this happens. H it was actually really hot last night because of the sun radiating off Key’s face. I was about to say, what are you talking about, guys? I woke up convinced I’d be tanned. I’m not tanned. I am burnt. And I even found like a little like burn patch on my neck. So, I might need us to go and buy some aloe vera gel to to have a bath in. Yes. So, our plan today is to make our way down towards Salt Lake City. Uh but we also want to see stuff in the way. I think there’s still stuff in this town that we want to go see. There’s waterfalls and stuff like that. So, we got to get this van turned around. We got to put all our stuff away. We got the spicy kimchi. We got the jalapenos. We’ve got a ghost pepper hot sauce. Guys, if you’re a spice fiend, hands up in the comments. Key actually bought me hot ones a couple of months ago and I still have them. We haven’t opened them yet because we want to do like uh maybe a Q&A or something. Yeah, like a Hot Ones challenge right now, which I think that would be really cool. So, let us know if you’d like to see that because I really want to open them already. So, just say yes. So, who’s tidy in the van? We’re just doing this. All right, it’s tidy time. Look at you in your jacket. Guys, I put the jacket on to protect my neck a little from the sun cuz it’s still very sunny today. Maybe it’s not a hoodie day. It’s a shirt kind of day. Are you swapping out? I’m swapping out. You know, this has maybe been on me too long. It just feels so good, you know. Look at us guys in our different clothes. Who are we? I know, Billy. I need aloe vera. My skin is stinging. Let’s go. I can’t believe this is free. BLM lands is like so good. This is great. I thought BLM lands would just mean like fields and stuff that you were allowed to be in. I didn’t know that some of them would have actual like Yeah. designated pitches like with numbers on them. Yeah. Thank you, ParkUp. You have been magnificent. Philly, look at that blue sky. I know. This is like it honestly this does so much for my mood, you know, and like even to get out of bed in the morning knowing that there’s a blue sky. So good. So good. Yeeha. I’m in such a good mood today. Oh, that’s fantastic. Oh, I’m just looking forward to keep driving. Sadly guys, it seems to be a recurring theme for us right now that everything is shut. Season is not open. This road is closed. We can’t get down. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s dangerous if it’s snowy, but like it’s not snowy now. You know, apparently this is the Niagara Falls of the West according to the internet, but it’s closed, but I did check. I can’t fly the drone. All right, so since we’ve been sitting here, about another half a dozen cars have came past and got out and have walked down. So, we’re not going to go into the park, but we’re just going to walk across the road just to see if we can get a glimpse of anything. Yeah, you can see there’s the top of them. There you go, guys. That was our first canyon. Yeah. But whenever we first drove in and you just like accidentally seen the big canyon that we were going over, I was like, “What the flip?” And turns out, guys, canyons are a vibe. They’re pretty cool. Cool. Quite treacherous. Yeah. And I’m like, “Holy Moses, Philly.” Like, we’re going to see what do you call it? The Grand Canyon. The biggest, the grandest. Like, I’m really excited for that now based on this little mini accidental canyon. I’m like, canyons are cool. I’m excited. You’ve wet your canyon whistle. Yeah. All right. Well, let’s hit the road then. Yes. Got another couple hours to drive before we get to Salt Lake City. So, let’s get at it. Yeah. Hopefully, I’m going to be slathering this on all day. You’re going to use that whole tub, guys. My little Irish skin, man. So pathetic. So, so pathetic. You are a tomato. Yeah. But we got we got natural uh zinc sun lotion. So, I’ve got sun lotion now. It’s full of good stuff. So, too late. Damage is done. No, no, no. This will like within a couple of days, I’ll be tanned and then this will just keep me tanned. Or you’ll pedal and you’ll look like some sort of like flaky tortilla. Yeah, tortilla. Flaky tortilla. Right. Shall we hit the road? Head south to where it’s even sunnier and hotter. Let’s go on the road again. Guys, we’ve had to pull over off the highway for a second because somebody’s lost the will to live. I’m hungry. That is right. Key can’t go more than two hours without food. So, we’re stopping to medicate her in the form of a burger. Billy, did you know that it’s nearly 400 p.m.? I haven’t eaten since 9. I think we might have went across a time zone. I’m wasting away. Can you see me? I’m not joking. Like I really I really massively hit a wall. I only rallied cuz the guys are here. I was literally like he was sloing it in the front seat. Anyway, we’re going to eat a burger. We’re not doing very good at showcasing our healthy diet. We’re at a pizza and a burger in a video, guys. We’re actually like we’re usually really good at like eating whole foods and stuff. You’re just catching us in a real It’s a lot of driving. It is a lot of driving and we need just we need sustenance in our bodies. And to be honest, you know, it’s a healthy burger, right? These ingredients on these burgers are all absolutely incredible. But the other thing that we have been trying to do is also making our own bread and wraps because guys, we’re Irish so obviously we love carbs. And in America and Canada, we realized that all the bread and stuff has like 40 different ingredients. So these are my own little dough balls where I have made my own dough for wraps. So I’m basically going to try and just make mushroom burgers, loads of fried onions, my own little wraps, all squished together, toasted. Yum. I put a lot of ketchup on mine. The fried onions, man. Fried onions just make everything. What burger topping makes a burger for you guys? Cheers. Feeling I’m rejuvenated. That’s all it took? All it took was a burger. My body just needs fuel, man. Salt Lake City, here we come. we have arrived not at a beautiful park up. We’re literally parked outside of Home Depot. I went on a little walk around and we found a tile shop. Guys, we finally found our kitchen tiles. You probably can’t see cuz it’s a bit dark right now, but there are beautiful sage green, which I’m very excited about. I’m going to get to put them around the kitchen. And honestly, that’s like the final thing we’ve been waiting to get done on this van is tiling this kitchen area. So, I’m very excited. But right now, man, I’m very sunburnt and I’m very tired. And it’s been a bit of a wash out, guys. We’re just going to have to do more exploring tomorrow. We had great plans, but this van drives very slow. Everything takes twice as long as you hope. We thought this would be a 3-hour drive. It was not. I’m sorry. I’m sorry that this this video is just us driving and me complaining and being sunburned. But welcome to Philly’s life, guys. I’ll be honest. I had great intentions. I was maybe going to do tiles. I was going to show you his cooking. Uh we obviously just went straight to bed cuz we’re both exhausted. H also, good morning. Oh, yeah. We parked outside Walmart last night and it’s probably the Walmart with the most beautiful backdrop that I’ve ever seen. Yeah. And even the car park’s like full of cherry blossom trees and everything. It’s actually very beautiful. Spring is in full force. It was very quiet and I actually slept really well. Yeah. But we can’t stay here all day. We actually need to do some work. So, we’re going to try and go somewhere with a bit of nature. Yes. One thing we’ve realized with this van, guys, we used to be cheapos and we would never go pay for places. But because fuel is so expensive in this van, driving half an hour to a free camp up is actually going to be the same price as just paying to go and stay in a state park. So that’s what we’re going to do right now. We’re going to head into Antelopee State Park, which I’m very excited about cuz it’s meant to have loads of nature. So let’s go, guys. It’s also meant to have a particular animal. Not an antelope. Not an antelope. I do find it interesting how every state has a kind of look to it. Yeah. I didn’t know Utah had mountains. Yeah, Utah was looking very flat and farmlandy for a while. It’s got snowy mountains. Yeah, it’s gorgeous. I’m really excited to go to the state park because there’s swimming. But it’s not a sea. Where’s my phone? Is it a lake? Where’s my maps? It’s here. Oh, yeah. Yeah, cuz it’s an island. But there’s no sea cuz we’re inland. So, it must be a really big lake. Oh my word. Salt Lake. Salt Lake City. Who’ have known? So, there’s a big lake here. I have not paid attention to my map. A big salty lake. I’m excited. Camping. Do you have a reservation? We don’t. I am completely booked. Oh, man. All right. So, it turns out that you should probably book in advance and it is the weekend and is like the start of the new season. So, of course, these places are going to be booked up. So, Kay’s going to go and talk to the woman and see what we can do cuz she does have spots available for tomorrow cuz this is where we want to sleep. Okay. So, we can stay here until 10:00 tonight and then we’ll have to find somewhere else to park up and then we can come back at like 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, she said. And also, she says that the bison are like free roaming and sometimes they’re even in the campground. Oh my. Oh, sorry. Spoiler alert, guys. The animal that’s in this park is bison. I’m excited. Kay, we’re here. We’re here. We’re in the antelope park, guys. The weather is beautiful. It’s such a good temperature. There’s going to be wild bison apparently. Yeah. And antelope. I think there is also antelope, but everyone’s here for the bison. Also, a lot of locals say that this is their favorite place in the whole world. Yeah. So, let’s let’s go see what it’s about. Right now, all I can see is mountains and fields. Yeah, we are here. I’m not joking, but are they bison in front of us? Are they bison? Are they just cows? Are they bison or are they cows? Are they horses, guys? You can’t see it. I’ll let you see when we’re closer. But over there in the distance, like what are those animals, Philly? I’m going to lose my mind if they’re bison cuz like we’ve not even got on the island. Key, they’re wild bison. Like, they’re wild bison, aren’t they? Like 200 m from us. Like, aren’t they like, is there is there somewhere to pull in so my brain can process this? Because I’m my brain just keeps being like, nah, they got to be horses. There’s a pull in. Let’s just let’s just let’s just let’s just pull in, guys. My brain really can’t process this. Like if we’re about turning it down this road and there are actual wild humongous bison just there. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bison. I’ve never never never never in my entire life. Never. They’re huge. They’re huge. Billy. Billy. What is that? Philly. Philly. Philly. Philly. Philly. Is it a mammoth? Is it a woolly mammoth? Oh my good. Philly. I Billy, Billy, why are they so big, Billy? They’re My heart’s actually pounding a little bit. They look like mammoths, guys. I really didn’t expect to see bison straight away. Yeah, like it doesn’t it doesn’t feel I thought we’d have to be really hunting for them. Like I was looking at this map thinking, right, we’ll go down here. They’re here. Apparently there’s 500 bison that live on this island and they’re all wild, free roaming, which is just doesn’t make sense. Yeah. And there’s signs everywhere about like don’t go near them. But thankfully, we have our big boy lens and we can get as close as we want. So, let’s go take some pics. Yeah. Yes, Philly. This is incredible. I’m I’m flabbergasted. Philly, he is so close to me. I’m pointing this lens at this bison badly. Yeah, probably. Omg, I’m filming a bison. I’m filming a wild bison in Utah in the USA. Like, am I on a safari? He’s getting closer to us. Do you Do you want to be my friend? Dude, I’m right here. I am right here for cuddles. He’s right there. Yeah, he’s maybe a little bit too close for comfort. Guys, there’s the van. There’s me. There’s the bison. Like, what? Did you know that he eats the grass by licking it up with his tongue? I am so close that I can see that he’s licking the grass. I know. We need to go and do work. We need to go and park up and do work, but we’re never going to be this close to Bison. What? This is ridiculous. They’re They’re literally right there, and they all want to be our friends. They’re all coming over. Oh my goodness. Two of them have birds on their back. That was ridiculous. Guys, come down below park. You can get up close and personal with a bison. A bison Philly. He’s in the middle of the road. He’s in the middle. Get the guys. Guys, this is ridiculous. This is so ridiculous. None of this makes any sense. Where are we? Where are we? And then look at that backdrop. Those glacier mountains. That salty lake. Guys, we’re meant to be editing right now. We We came here to work. I thought I really didn’t. Wow. I did not. I’m flabbergasted. Let’s find somewhere to park up. All right, guys. Now that we’re here, we have so much work to do. You’d be surprised at how much footage we have to come through. So true. There’s just so much to see and so much to do. It’s crazy. Yeah. But you’re going to have to come back next week to see us continue to explore Antelopee Park and the rest of Utah because it’s meant to be incredible and I’m so excited for that. Utah has been a proper sleeper state right now. I did not expect it to be this beautiful and I’m super excited to explore further. And if you guys are enjoying our videos and our time through Oregon, Idaho, everywhere we’ve been so far, please hit that subscribe button. There is no denying we make some mistakes this week on our USA roadtrip, lake of research means twice we drove to places that were closed, and also somewhere fully booked, but the biggest mistake I made this week was not wearing sun lotion and going on a mid day hike! We live and learn eh guys!

We explore some of the most surprising and surreal landscapes America has to offer, encounter unexpected wildlife, and get more than a little sunburnt along the way. Life on the road in the States is full of twists, turns, and jaw-dropping moments — and we’re loving every second of it.

⤈ WHO WE ARE ⤈
We’re Philly and Keely, a couple living full-time in our tiny home on wheels, exploring the world one road trip at a time!
Our vanlife journey began with a DIY campervan build in a Citroën Relay, where we spent a year navigating the streets of London before quitting our jobs to travel full-time—only to be met with lockdown. Once the world reopened, we pushed our van further than ever, road-tripping through Europe to the stunning landscapes of Turkey. But vanlife isn’t always smooth sailing…
🚐 Robbed in Spain – Our van was broken into, and we lost everything valuable.
🔥 Van fire disaster – Just as we got back on the road, our home-on-wheels caught fire.
🌏 Japan & Australia – We pivoted, taking on a three-month adventure across Japan, then built another van in Australia for an epic six-month road trip deep into the Outback.
Now, we’ve packed up our UK vanlife and are embarking on a brand-new adventure—this time in America! We’re traveling in a vintage RV, chasing the open road across North America. Subscribe to follow our journey! 🚐✨

  1. There are shirts/jackets/windbreaker that are SPF/rashguard and are great for fair skin. I have very fair skin and burn easily, too. It's miserable when you get sun-sick!!!

  2. That canyon view was in Twin Falls Idaho. I grew up there in the 70s and 80s. I remember when I was a kid the daredevil Evil kanevil attempted to jump a rocket powered motorcycle over the canyon not to far from where you filmed the view of the bridge. If you are there in the summer you can watch people BASE jumping off the bridge.

  3. Up to a dollar cheaper then Washington because the people in my state keep voting for more taxes on fuel. The state keeps telling them they will make our roads better … I travel for a living all the conservative states have way better roads and don't line there pockets with there citizens money

  4. The Arches National Park Utah, Mesa Verde Colorado, the Great Sand Dunes Colorado. There’s so many amazing places out in the West!

  5. You kids have got to do the Big 5 National Parks in Utah. I live in Ohio and my husband and I did them. 2 years later our daughters friend from Slovakia came to visit and we took them to see Utah. We spent 3 weeks and ended up in the Grand Canyon. Please do this trip right. IMO Utah is the most beautiful state in the USA.

  6. I live very near Antelope Island. I'm surprised you didn't comment on the smell. It is a beautiful park though. Decent camping, but almost no trees for shade.

  7. wow, I just discovered you guys today and I've just binge watched your last three videos! i'm a Californian. She'll have visited most of the places you show. And also visited Ireland for the first time last year, loved it, especially West Ireland..
